GENERAL SUMMARY:

Responsible to the COO for planning, organizing, directing and evaluating all functions and activities for assigned patient care programs / units, to ensure delivery of optimal quality care and organizational effectiveness. The Assistant Vice President for Surgical Services is directly responsible for Cardiovascular Operating Room, Women’s Health Pavilion Operating Room, Main Operating Room, One Day Surgery, all Pre and Post Anesthesia Care Units, Pre Admission departments, Central Sterile Processing Department, Patient Service Center, Endoscopy, and Robotics.  Indirectly: advises/manages all service areas that impact patient care for the surgical patient population. Plans, directs, coordinates and serves as the administrative liaison for surgical services activities, projects and programs, including marketing and philanthropy, and any other activities surgically related in nature. Requires working closely with the medical leadership regarding surgical patient services, including, but not limited to, the delivery of services, state of relevant technology and equipment, revenue generation, establishment, reimbursement for changes, budget, and all other administrative matters, as related. Evaluate patient care, operational efficiencies, performance methods and employee issues, and make recommendations. Participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.


Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Leadership ability, accepts responsibility, exercises authority, and functions independently;
  • Maintain good relationships within the multi-disciplinary members of all the surgical departments and surgical service lines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively via oral and written, and in a public venue
  • Applies cost-containment principles while endeavoring to create new or improved methods of operation;
  • Professional attitude as evidenced by discretion and confidentiality;
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure and stress;
  • Self-motivation, self- confidence, and adaptability;
  • Ability to work effectively as a member and to be accepted in a leadership role by a variety of constituents internal and external to the organization.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS PREFERRED:

  • Lean process improvement skills and/or certification

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing with a completed MBA, MSN, or MSHA.  CNOR required.
  • A minimum of five years of diverse management experience at a director level or higher in a tertiatry or large academic hospital setting with multiple operating rooms handling complex cases.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in the development and coordination of surgical services programs and extensive experience with multiple surgical services units including but not limited to ortho, robotic, neuro, cardiac, GI, etc.
  • Extensive experience working closely with physicians and proven ability to gain trust and credibility;
  • Extensive experience facilitating and managing challenging situations, including conflict resolution and demonstration of outstanding interpersonal skills;
  • Experience in facilitating high-level multi-disciplinary group decisions.  

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:

  • Current and valid State of Florida license as a registered professional nurse
  • Current CNOR certification.
  • BLS Certification

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION PREFERRED:

  • ACLS certification
