Job Description

Surgery Scheduler

JOB SUMMARY

The Surgery Scheduler is responsible for greeting, instructing, directing and scheduling patients. Responsibilities include scheduling surgical procedures, pre-admission testing, and posting of surgical charges.  Serves as a liaison between patient and medical support staff.

PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS

Requires prolonged sitting, some bending, stooping, and stretching.  Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, calculator and other office equipment.  Working under stress and use of telephone required.  Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate information and reports.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

1.    High school graduate or equivalent.

2.    Medical office experience as cashier or receptionist

3.    One year of medical terminology, ICD-9 and CPT-4 coding experience preferred.

4.    Experience with word processing & computers preferred.  MEDIC software experience a plus.

5.    Must be willing to float to other FHMG practices, within reason, when patient load, vacation schedules etc. make it necessary.

6.    Demonstrates ability to communicate by reading, writing legibly, speaking and comprehending English effectively in order to carry out job requirements.
