Sr Manager – Engineering – Engineering Services - General – Orlando

AdventHealth Orlando seeks to hire a Sr Manager – Engineering who will embrace our mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ.



Facility Profile:

Located on a lush tropical campus, our flagship hospital, 1,368-bed AdventHealth Orlando, serves as the major tertiary facility for much of the Southeast, the Caribbean and South America. AdventHealth Orlando houses one of the largest Emergency Departments and largest cardiac catheterization labs in the country. We are already one of the busiest hospitals in the nation, providing service excellence to more than 32,000 inpatients and 125,000 outpatients each year.



Work Hours/Shifts:

M-F; 7am - 3:30pm



Job Summary:

The Senior Manager (SM) promotes and oversees the continuing operation of a customer-centered Engineering and Facilities department. In addition to directing personnel to maintain the buildings in livable and workable conditions relative to heat, light, power, air conditioning, and other broad environmental factors, the SM is responsible for reviewing and/or conducting appraisals, working with department directors on departmental goals and objectives, policies, procedures, budgets, and long-range plans relating to specific area of responsibility. The SM actively participates in global, pace-setting customer service and accepts responsibility for maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.



Knowledge, Skills, Education, & Experience Required:

  • General knowledge of Hospital maintenance areas.
  • Must have knowledge of AHCA, DNV, NFPA, BBC, OSHA, and Life Safety Code regulations and standards
  • Be able to use spreadsheets for statistical and analytical assignments
  • Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, particularly Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint.
  • Organizational and interpersonal skills (Preferred)
  • Bachelor’s degree in a life science discipline, Business Management, or Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • Master’s degree in a life science discipline, Business Management, or Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (Preferred)
  • If no Bachelor’s degree:
  • Eight years of healthcare engineering experience
  • Three years of management/leadership experience OR
  • Four years of healthcare engineering experience
  • Three years of management/leadership experience



Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:

  • Certified Healthcare Engineer (CHE) (Preferred)
  • Engineering registration seal / number (Preferred)



Job Responsibilities:

  • SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:
  • Maintains a preventive/corrective maintenance program.
  • Effectively coordinates construction and maintenance services with all departments’ schedules work and repairs on a priority basis in cooperation with all.
  • Ensures that the department is well-organized, with adequate space allocated for machine, electrical, plumbing, air conditioning and maintenance; organizes the department to facilitate maximal efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Works effectively under stress, frustration, and managing conflict with others in a positive and constructive manner. Promotes outstanding working relationships with staff and hospital departments.
  • Coordinates projects with private contractors, engineers, and architects, as well as AdventHealth Office of Design & Construction.
  • Effectively coordinates matters pertaining to major construction, including planning programming and accomplishing maintenance, repair, and improvements of buildings, structure, roads, grounds, drainage systems, and utilities.
  • Regularly participates in cost control activities through and organized system of planning and monitoring the utilization of supplies and equipment; evaluates and sets standards for equipment usage.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including adjusting one’s schedule of work, if necessary, for the continued safety or convenience of our guests and/or staff
  • COMPLIANCE/REGULATORY RESPONSIBILITY:
  • Ensures that areas of responsibility follow all regulatory guidelines and safety procedures related to their tasks as assigned.
  • Ensures there is a program of preventative maintenance and quarterly inspection of all fire alarm systems; documents the inspection and testing of the fire alarm systems. Ensures that all AHCA and DNV-cited discrepancies/contingencies are corrected by the required date.
  • Also maintains compliance with regulatory controls, including OSHA rules and regulations, applicable building codes, licensure of various tradesmen (if there is a need for their work to be approved by local building inspectors), and license requirements for operating engineers; ensures that all Plant Operations staff members have currently valid and appropriate credentials.
  • Ensures that the emergency generator system is inspected weekly and is tested under actual load and operating temperature conditions per AHCA and DNV guidelines reviews all documented tests.
  • Ensures that all critical PM’s are completed as required by code.
  • OPERATING & CAPITAL BUDGET/FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY:
  • Analyzes monthly income and expense reports
  • Accountable for maintaining monthly and annual budget
  • Assists the Director by creating, managing and analyzing the annual budget for all areas of responsibility.
  • STRATEGIC PLANNING RESPONSIBILITY:
  • Actively participates in strategic planning for the team in alignment with the Organization’s Mission, Vision, Values and Service Standards.
  • Provides tactical oversight of all departmental leadership for day to day operations as well as future state strategic planning.
  • PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT RESPONSIBILITY:
  • Consistently looks for process and performance improvement opportunities in design, quality, customer service, accountability and leadership.
  • Continuously monitors facility key performance indicators, ensuring goals are successfully met.
  • Identifies and removes barriers and provides solutions in their place.
  • COMMUNITY RELATIONS RESPONSIBILITY:
  • Encourages and promotes community involvement within the Landscaping Departments through participation in the American Heart Walk, Habitat for Humanity, United Way, Adopt-a-Family, Quest Inc., AdventHealth Foundation, and other campaigns.
  • STAFFING/LABOR/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
  • Focuses on management growth by mentoring, developing, and engaging potential leads; participates in setting, implementing, and achieving quantifiable goals and objectives. Ensures that all assigned areas meet operational goals including adequate productivity, budget, and efficiency levels.
  • Promotes global pacesetting practices in customer and employee satisfaction as measured by ITRAC and Glint.
