Senior Manager Risk – Risk Management – Maitland

Maitland seeks to hire Senior Manager Risk who will embrace our mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ.



Facility Profile:

Department Profile:

The Risk Management Department is responsible for multiple activities aligned with Florida Hospital’s mission and vision. These activities include: (1) the maintenance of and tracking from FH’s Event Reporting system in compliance with Florida Statutes, (2) the identification and reporting of adverse events to the Agency for Health Care Administration, (3) the identification and investigation of Sentinel Events, (4) the facilitation of Sentinel Event Root Cause Event Teams, (5) the reporting of pertinent data for compliance with corporate indicators and dashboards, (6) the receipt and facilitation of formal Patient Grievances, (7) the prevention of claims (8) the identification and reporting of potential claims to Adventist Health System Risk Management, (9) the management of the internal claims process, (10) the coordination of legal correspondence and responses to attorney requests, (11) the provision of support to staff and administration regarding medical/risk/legal/ethical matters, (12) the investigation of events which include sexual accusations against FH employees, and (13) the identification of strategies designed to reduce the annual number of incidents with injury and hospital professional liability claims. The Risk Management data is in alignment with the established Patient Safety Organization.

Mon – Fri / 8:30 – 5p



Job Summary:

The Senior Manager of Risk directs day to day risk operations of multiples facilities (acute care campuses, outpatient centers, free-standing emergency centers, Healthcare University....and Church) with approximately half-million visits per year. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.



Knowledge, Skills, Education, & Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Clinical, Healthcare or Business Administration
  • MS Office, Cerner, RiskMaster
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, excellent oral and written communication skills to all level of the organization, analytical skill, problem solving.
  • Knowledge and understanding of state and federal regulations and case law relevant to patient safety and risk management activities, particularly FS 395.0197
  • Ability to research, prepare comprehensive reports, and recommend and implement successful strategies
  • If Clinical: Three years of clinical experience One year of healthcare risk manager experience OR If Non-Clinical: Five Years of healthcare Risk Management experience.
  • Master’s Degree in Clinical, Healthcare or Business Administration (Preferred).
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint (Preferred)
  • Supervisory, leadership and/or people management experience (Preferred)/li>


Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:

  • If Clinical, active Florida license or certification as one of the following: Registered Nurse, ARNP, Respiratory Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist, Speech Pathologist, Radiology Technician, Ultrasound Technician, Physician Assistant, Paramedic, Pharmacist


Job Responsibilities:

  • SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY: Develop risk and safety strategy at the campus and system level in collaboration with senior leaders, medical staff, clinical leadership, performance improvement, and IP - both at in the inpatient and outpatient environment. Identify, develop and implement proactive safety improvement and risk reduction strategies for unit, campus, and system level process opportunities. Operations related to the Risk Management Program and related patient safety initiatives for the system. Implements risk management plan for assigned areas
  • COMPLIANCE/REGULATORY RESPONSIBILITY: Responsible for maintenance of regulatory requirements for risk management programs including oversight of the event report review, grievance process, and reporting requirements for assigned facilities. Ensures appropriate execution of the Root Cause Analysis process and preparation of presentations to the Serious Event Analysis Team Keeps informed of regulatory changes and initiates changes as needed to keep the Risk Management function in compliance with the state, federal, and accreditation standards. Maintains compliance with the Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Act as it relates to handling of Patient Safety Work Product
  • OPERATING & CAPITAL BUDGET/FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY: Manage budget, staffing and operational efficiency within the department Identify and report potential compensatory events to the Executive Director of Risk Management and claims management team per Florida Hospital and Adventist Health System policies Approve goodwill adjustments to patient billing related to patient grievance resolution
  • STRATEGIC PLANNING RESPONSIBILITY: Actively communicate information cascade bidirectionally with senior leadership Develops strategies, in conjunction with the Executive Director, for the development of ongoing Risk Management activities that meet regulatory requirements and administrative objectives Direct departmental functions utilizing key performance indicators and extending excellence principles to effectively identify and reduce patient safety events Track and trend event data (risk master, claims, PSorg) as an input to the safety and quality annual planning process with recommendations for needed process improvements
  • PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT RESPONSIBILITY: Evaluation and analysis, tracking and trending of data for identification of risk/ safety concerns for quality improvement. Participates in the leadership meeting for quality, safety and risk to develop the organizational strategic plan Driving, guiding and delegating risk or safety issues to ensure appropriate investigation and action is taken. Facilitate root cause analysis and ensure follow-up planning Ensures process excellence to meet department key performance indicators
  • COMMUNITY RELATIONS RESPONSIBILITY: Plan and participate in department community outreach projects Oversee grievance resolution process Serves as a resource and educator for medical staff and clinical teams with regard to risk issues and regulatory requirements.
  • STAFFING/LABOR/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: Lead, develop, evaluate, inculcate staff in Safety Culture and proactive risk mitigation. Provides leadership and assistance in the absence of the Executive Director of Risk Management and has the authority to act in the Executive Director’s behalf if necessary. Directly supervises the Risk Management Coordinator activities and ensures daily staffing coverage for risk management coordinators for the system
