Senior Manager – Learning Technologies – Simulation – Maitland

Job Summary:

The Senior Manager for Learning Technologies leads assigned department(s) with an operational and strategic learning focus, which consists of planning, developing, and implementing all Central Florida Division learning technologies and serves as a tactical partner in all areas of simulation, training, technology, education, knowledge management and leadership development. Develops world-class technology-based simulation and training products for all campuses, service lines and departments, both clinical and non-clinical, across the Florida Hospital system (including both Acute Care Services and Integrated Health Services), the Adventist University of Health Sciences, and the Graduate Medical Education programs. Responsibilities include strategic planning, compliance management, department supervision, instructional systems design and development for system-wide customers, budget preparation, program management, learning needs assessment, curriculum development, data and content management, campus/program expert liaison, consulting, data analysis/presentation, and continuous process improvement. The Senior Manager for Learning Technologies is responsible for leading the team that develops web-based training modules, manages website content, inserts new learning technologies into existing training modalities, oversees/administers the system-wide learning management system, assists with the implementation of large software packages such as enterprise resource planning (ERP) software and interfaces with the technological and training sectors of the government, industry and academia, maintaining valuable partnerships. Is considered a highly valued expert in simulation, training and learning technology across the organization. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

  • Working knowledge of simulation training technology including simulators, gaming simulations, visual tools, blended learning tools, virtual/immersive environments, and computer/audiovisual systems.
  • Expertise in training and development of individuals and teams.
  • Knowledge of the following areas and with the following programs: o Web development (e.g., Dreamweaver 8, Flash Professional 8, Express Visual Web Developer, Visual Studio Express, Drupal, SharePoint, Google Chrome, Firefox, etc.) o Gaming development (e.g., Godot, Cryengine, Unity, Frostbite, Source, Unreal Engine, etc.) o Graphic design (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, etc.) o Video editing (e.g., VideoStudio, Sony Vegas, Premiere Pro, Sorenson Squeeze 4, 3D stereoscopic filming / development, etc.) o Media development (e.g., WSFTP, Console 1, Audacity, Microsoft Office Suite, Windows Media Encoder, Windows Media Player, Flash/Shockwave Player, Adobe (Macromedia) Captivate, Adobe (Macromedia) Contribute 3, etc.)
  • Knowledge of technology integration to healthcare practice and equipment. (Preferred)
  • Current knowledge of acute, hospital-based care and national initiatives. (Preferred)
  • Experience with desktop and mobile application development, including gaming platforms featuring Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), Artificial Intelligence (AI), instructor-less training, gaming avatars, and interactors, to include Human-In-The-Loop (HITL) modeling. (Preferred)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Knowledge Management, Instructional Systems Design, Educational Technology, Simulation, Engineering, Healthcare, Allied Health, Logistics, Operations, Administration, or related discipline.
  • Master’s degree in Knowledge Management, Instructional Systems Design, Educational Technology, Simulation, Engineering, Healthcare, Allied Health, Logistics, Operations, Administration, or related discipline. (Preferred)


Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:

Provides counsel, assistance and guidance for instructional systems design, simulated learning curriculum development, and web-based training.
  • Advises system and campus leaders on improving learning outcomes using technology-based learning technologies. Oversees the transformation of complex information, using instructional design standards, into effective learning modules to meet the training needs of a specific audience for a blended learning experience. Leads teams that develop and integrate technology-based training with other new and existing learning modalities.
  • Leads the strategic compliance effort for accreditation. Architects, deploys, and operates a system-wide learning management system that uses cutting-edge technologies to develop, organize, and administer Florida Hospital’s full spectrum of web-based training efforts and associated data/metrics.
  • Plans, designs, implements and develops evaluation measures for web-based learning in accordance with standards of best practice from the Association for the Advancement of Computing in Education, International Society for Technology in Education, American Productivity and Quality Center, Society for Simulation in Healthcare, the National League for Nursing, and the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning. Integrates technology-based learning modalities into new and existing curriculum aligned with organizational, campus and specialty goals, outcomes and strategies.
  • Prepares department budgets (operational and capital) and recommends for approval. Manages the budget process, including planning, programming, budget adherence, and reporting at the cost center level for assigned department(s).
  • Forecasts, justifies and defends strategic budget plans for operational and capital funds to align with the Organizational Effectiveness/People Systems business plan and the Central Florida Division’s strategic priorities.
  • Focuses technology-based training programs on improving patient safety outcomes, lowering risk, and achieving financial improvements through the reduction in length of stay and 30-day readmission rates.
  • Leads the department’s strategic planning efforts and initiatives to align with the Learning Enterprise’s system-wide medical simulation and training strategy. Serves on system and department working groups/committees to accomplish strategic goals.
  • Develops strategic framework for system-wide learning technologies, and forecasts resources to meet organizational and strategic objectives (including platforms, programs, personnel, equipment and supplies). Determines the needs of the system, campus, departments, service lines/strategic business units, leaders and staff related to web-based training.
  • Serves as the strategic, programmatic and technical liaison for learning technologies between FH System and the FH Nicholson Center, the Adventist University of Health Sciences, and the Graduate Medical Education programs. Plans and coordinates all aspects of technology-based training for joint proposals to external customers for revenue generation.
  • Provides learning technologies subject matter expertise to the system-wide Simulation Coalition Committee. Provides expertise and consulting to system-level committees regarding learning technology, supports investigations into critical incidents, and offers remediation opportunities based on real cases across for the hospital system. Supports the organization with participation on Ethics, Risk Management, and/or Critical Incident Stress Debriefing.
  • Continually assesses opportunities for improvement in all aspects of simulation and learning technologies. Identifies and incorporates new technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) into existing learning environments.
  • Leads process improvement projects for department(s), identifies areas of risk and recommends risk management strategies. Routinely audits learning platforms and knowledge management systems to ensure quality assurance.
  • Partners with healthcare simulation and technology-based learning communities of interest on all aspects of improving best practices in learning technology including curriculum development, web-based technology utilization, and hospital staff training techniques to improve patient outcomes, patient safety and staff safety.
  • Actively promotes Florida Hospital’s mission by accepting speaking invitations, teaching courses, authoring (or providing input to) articles, and publishing research results. Plans, resources, and supports booths and seminars at training, simulation and education at conferences, symposia, workshops and community events.
  • Develops strategic relationships in the system, local community and across the national and international simulation, training and technology communities, including hospital industry, vendors, government, and academic institutions.
  • Manages all simulation department managers and professional staff, including work plans and delegating assignments to subordinate leaders. Manages all aspects of Florida Hospital’s learning management systems across the system to ensure a smooth and efficient operation.
  • Responsible for planning, staffing, budgeting and implementing changes to methods.
  • Acts as a key advisor to senior management on the development of overall policies and long-term goals of the department.
  • Identifies employment requirements, functions, tasks and job specifications for positions within reporting structure rollup. Responsible for implementing initiatives related to attracting talent, developing staff, and implementing an effective performance management process. Assesses job candidates’ skills and experience, and selects top talent in accordance with needs. Identifies future skill sets needed to maintain organizational competitiveness.
  • Ensures staffing is effective and efficient, and promotes core values. Assures that staff is representative of the population diversity through oversight of recruitment, selection and retention of personnel. Ensures appropriate orientation for new staff and appropriate methodologies for ongoing competency assessment of staff
