Team Lead Registered Nurse – Progressive Care Unit

Work Hours/Shift:

Full Time / Nights

You Will Be Responsible For:

•     Assesses, develops, implements and evaluates a comprehensive plan of care through a multidisciplinary care team process in conjunction with the patient/family in internal and external settings.

•     Comprehensively assesses patients' goals as well as their biophysical, psychosocial, environmental and discharge planning needs and financial status.

•     Procures services and advocates on behalf of the patient/family for scarce resources.

•     Works collaboratively with staff members involved in care of case managed population.

•     Seeks peer consultation regarding cases that present problems/significant variances.

•     Acts as a liaison to post-hospital care providers and community health resources.

•     Evaluates own nursing practice in relation to professional practice standards and relevant statutes and regulations.

•     Engages in performance appraisal on a regular basis, identifying areas for professional/practice development.

•     Takes action to achieve personal goals identified during performance appraisal.

•     Associate remains flexible to changing systems, is expected to demonstrated quality and effectiveness in work habits and treat staff, physicians, patients and families with consideration and respect.

•     Understands the Computerized Physician Order entry process and proficiently uses the electronic medical record for retrieval of patient information.

•     Understands computer downtime procedures.

•     Monitors Electronic Medical Record for new physician orders and diagnostic results.

•     Real Time Scanning

•     Performs all other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

What You Will Need:

  • Skill and proficiency in applying highly technical principles, concepts and techniques which are central to the nursing profession and is normally acquired through completion of a ASN program.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of recent experience in an acute care facility successfully demonstrating skills in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care required.
  • ONS Chemotherapy/biotherapy provider course certification required within sixty (60) days of hire. Certification and competency must be maintained throughout employment (Required only for Oncology)
  • Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Texas or in a qualifying compact state.
  • Maintains ACLS (and/or PALS if applicable to unit) certification.
  • Advanced certification specific to the unit for which they manage preferred.
  • Experience in unit area specialty in the past two (2) years and one (1) year Management and/or Charge experience preferred.
  • Clinical Pathway/Clinical Ladder experience preferred.

Job Summary:

The Team Leader adheres to and follows the goals, philosophy, standards and guidelines of Texas Health Huguley. The Team Leader is a specialized health care professional who reports to the Director and provides leadership to the unit assigned by supervising the coordination the care and services for the patients on the unit for their assigned shift. The Team Leader will lead their staff on the delivery of safe patient care, quality strategies, throughput initiatives, patient satisfaction and employee satisfaction. In collaboration with their Director, the Team Leader will conduct performance evaluations of their assigned staff, participate in peer interviews of potential new hires for their team, and will make suggestions to their Director of any staff recognitions and/or disciplinary actions. This position demonstrates leadership through conflict resolution and service recovery with patients, families, physicians, and staff and proactively removes barriers to effectively implement Texas Health Huguley’s strategic plan to achieve our vision.  The Team Leader maintains clinical competency and is required to provide direct patient care. Responsible for supervising RNs, LVNs and non-licensed nursing personnel assigned to unit during their shift.
