Research Assistant – Translational Research Institute – Orlando – Part Time

AdventHealth Orlando seeks to hire a Research Assistant who will embrace our mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ.



Facility Profile:

Located on a lush tropical campus, our flagship hospital, 1,368-bed AdventHealth Orlando, serves as the major tertiary facility for much of the Southeast, the Caribbean and South America. AdventHealth Orlando houses one of the largest Emergency Departments and largest cardiac catheterization labs in the country. Department Profile:

The Translational Research Institute for Metabolism and Diabetes (TRI) is the product of an innovative affiliation between AdventHealth and Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute that bridges the gap between discovery research and clinical care. The TRI brings together the complementary strengths of Sanford-Burnham’s basic science prowess and advanced research technologies and AdventHealth’s compassionate, comprehensive clinical care and clinical/translational research expertise to accelerate the discovery and development of new approaches to diagnose, treat, and prevent obesity, diabetes, and their cardiovascular complications



Work Hours/Shifts:

Monday, Wednesday & Friday, 8a – 1p



Job Summary:

The Research Assistant performs a variety of duties involved in the research work of the Institute. Working under the direction of the Cores within the TRI, the Research Assistant customarily involves application of skills and practical knowledge in various research areas. The Research Assistant is expected to work closely with the TRI scientists and other staff as directed to assist in the daily operations of the clinical areas. Areas of focus include but are not limited to, Laboratory, Exercise and Metabolism, Clinical Procedure, Imaging, and Kitchen/Dietary. The Research Assistant actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.



Knowledge, Skills, Education, & Experience Required:

  • Knowledge of areas of focus that are defined as, but not limited to, Laboratory, Exercise and Metabolism, Clinical Procedure, Imaging, Kitchen/Dietary.
  • Specific experience as delineated by the core of employment (see competencies)
  • Specific knowledge and skills as delineated by the core of employment (see competencies) (preferred)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, Physics, Nursing or related field (preferred)


Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:

  • None


Job Responsibilities:

Demonstrates through behavior AdventHealth’s Core Values of Keep Me Safe, Love Me, Make it Easy, and Own it as outlined in the organization’s Performance Excellence Program

  • Assists with the design, construction and implementation of translational research proposals, protocols, and procedures
  • Assists with the analysis of research data in collaboration with Biostatisticians and TRI faculty
  • Assists with the preparation of scholarly manuscripts and final study reports (where applicable) to communicate results of the research to the broader scientific community
  • Assists with data collection by TRI research core staff including but not limited to Clinical Operations, Energy Metabolism, BioRepository, and Clinical Research unit
  • May attend seminars under the direction of the Senior Scientist/Scientific Director
  • Assists with scientific presentations and publication of research data
  • Assists with Research grant application preparation
  • Assists with fostering and supporting external academic and research collaborations
  • Assists with analysis and quality control procedures
  • Monitors supply inventory and instrument maintenance associated with the assigned core areas
