Florida Hospital Ocala opened its doors in 1898 as Marion General Hospital and has been in continuous operation since then. Then in 1928, the hospital was renamed to Munroe Memorial Hospital. Adventist Health System acquired Munroe Regional Medical and renamed it Florida Hospital Ocala in 2018. Florida Hospital - Ocala is situated in the heart of the city, minutes away from a vibrant, growing downtown area.  Ocala is situated in the heart of Marion County, Florida and is surrounded by the beautiful rolling pastures that have come to be known as the horse capital of the world.  The city boasts a genuine appreciation for the arts, a growing economy that’s attracting national businesses and a school system that includes nine schools with magnet designations. Florida Hospital Ocala is a 425-bed acute-care and offers a variety of services including, 24/7 Emergency Care, Diagnostic Testing, Inpatient and Outpatient Surgery, Women’s Services, and Inpatient and Outpatient Therapy. GENERAL SUMMARY:

To provide direct care to patients on an assigned unit using the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.  Functions and performs all technical aspects of nursing care within the framework of established policies and procedures of Munroe Regional Medical Center.  Responsible for managing care of assigned patients and guiding and directing the activities of ancillary staff.  May function as charge nurse.  Functions on the nursing unit as assistant to the physician.

 

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

•                        Tours patients, families, and/or significant others pre-delivery.  Provides information on the service and amenities of the Florida Hospital Obstetrical Unit.

•                        Assists patient and family members in Birth Plan development and personal preference sheet.

•                        Demonstrates through behavior Florida Hospital’s core values of Quality and Service Excellence, Community Wellbeing, High Ethical Standards, Stewardship and Inclusiveness.

•                        Maintains working knowledge of Florida Hospital programs offered to pregnant patients and their families. Offering our resources, educating moms about programs, assisting with appointments and scheduling for programs such as: Lactation, Prenatal Education, Pediatricians, Anesthesia, Baby safety, etc.

•                        Acts as a liaison between the hospital and patients, physician office staff, patient’s families and/or significant others by rounding daily to determine the customer’s need and satisfaction with services provided.  Assists in obtaining needed services. Reports patient, family, and/or significant other concerns to team members, birth advocate, supervisor, and/or Nurse Manager as indicated for resolution.  Actively works on issues that can be resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.

•               Triages telephone calls and provides requested information to potential customers in the community. 

•               Compiles patient education material for patient education packets, monitors supply usage and maintains availability of supplies as indicated.  Supplies physician offices with materials as requested.

•               Collaborates with Concierge in patient wish fulfillment

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:



Demonstrates ability to communicate professionally in the English language: verbally with a pleasant speaking voice and in the written language

Demonstrates strong organizational skills

Obstetrical knowledge and experience, one year Labor and Delivery experience

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS PREFERRED:

•         Basic computer skills to include Outlook and Microsoft Word.

•         Basic Life Support

•         NRP

•         Customer Service

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

•         BSN preferred

•         ADN required

•          

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

•         MSN preferred

•         National certification in OB nursing
