Work Hours/Shift:
Per Diem, Day
 
You Will Be Responsible For:
  • Performs Radiology clerical functions, including scheduling, order entry, filing and report printing sorting and distribution. 
  • Greets patients at Radiology reception desk, explaining exam preparation procedures and completion of appropriate history or other forms as needed. 
  • Reviews patient orders and contacts physicians’ offices as needed to clarify orders or scheduling and to relay reports as needed. 
  • Coordinates with technical staff as needed regarding patient status, delays and scheduling issues. 
  • Answers telephones, transfers calls and relays messages as needed. 
  • Performs records release of Radiology films and reports.  
  • Performs other general clerical duties such as filing and X-ray jacket preparation.
  • Answers telephone and greets patients, physicians and other staff in a prompt, courteous fashion. Relays messages, information and transfers calls as needed. 
  • Explains preparations and other procedures as needed.  

Qualifications
What You Will Need:

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
  • Good telephone and communication skills are necessary. 
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology is required. 
  • Must be able to type and perform order entry on HIS System, as well as retrieve information. 
  • Must possess general clerical skills, as well as good communication and organizational skills. 
  • Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. 
  • Must possess communication skills as necessary for contacts with patients, and family members of infant through geriatric age groups.
  • While policy and procedures are available and a great deal of the work is routine, new situations arise frequently. 
  • Employee must be able to use own judgment and initiative to resolve immediate or urgent problems and expedite patient care as needed. 
  • Judgment needed to inform appropriate person (Radiologist, Supervisor, or Technologist) of urgent issues or problems.
  • Processes much confidential information, such as lab and Radiology records, patient history and films received from other facilities
  • Is first point of contact within Department for outpatients and their families and is primary department interface with Physician office staff. 
  • Interfaces with physicians, other departments and other members of the public, as well as staff within own department. 
  • Many patients and families are under stress and tact is required to handle patient and physician interaction.  Failure to establish good initial patient relationship can cause further interaction problems during Radiology procedure. 
  • Must be able to deal with upset and angry patients and families in a calm and professional manner that invites cooperation and communication.
  • Voice must be pleasant in face-to-face and telephone conversations

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. 
  • One year medical office experience desirable
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Radiology experience preferred.
