Job Summary:

Under Supervision the Radiologic Technologist fulfills the responsibilities necessary in the use of ionizing radiation to produce quality radiographic images. These responsibilities involve participation in a variety of diagnostic technical procedures which deliver quality care to patients ranging from neonatal to geriatric. For pain medicine cost centers (2600, 9090, 9270, and 2840) and for Orlando Fracture care (6801) the technologist may perform duties delegated by the RN to assist with patient care and patient flow throughout the department. For 7217 technologists may perform the duties of Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL). Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.



Knowledge, Skills, Education, & Experience Required:

  • Knowledge of Diagnostic Radiological Procedures/Positions
  • Ability to determine appropriate technical factors
  • Knowledge of Radiographic and Fluoroscopic equipment
  • Ability to learn and master new tasks related to Image Quality and Radiation Safety
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work with people of diverse backgrounds
  • Knowledge of PACS and associated equipment (Preferred)
  • Good organizational skills (Preferred)
  • For Orlando Fracture Care Only: If functioning in the Surgical Assistant III role must have completed the FH training program and competencies.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in healthcare-related field (Preferred)
  • Pain Med and Fracture Care Only - Previous OR and/or procedural area experience (Preferred)


Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:

  • Current valid State of Florida license as a General Radiographer
  • ARRT (R)


Job Responsibilities:

  • Utilizing proper positioning criteria and technical exposure factors, performs all required imaging projections for given procedure. Utilizes two patient identifiers to confirm patient/exam accuracy before administering exam. [Exam Supervision and Administration]
  • Reviews all images on Computed Radiography NX station for evidence and accuracy of RT/LT marker placement and proper orientation. Repeats any view that fails to include all required anatomical structures or lacks proper contrast and spatial resolution. Adheres to all criteria on the Image Quality Action Plan.   • Completes assigned exams in a timely manner. Keeps work flow coordinator informed of availability and status of all pending exams. Personally follows through with communicating clinical information. [Personal Productivity and Accountability]
  • Utilizes computer system to update exam status, cancel/update orders as needed. Ensures charges match procedure completed. Confirms proper exam/patient assignment at NX before releasing images to PACS for interpretation. Corrects erroneous accession numbers in PACS. [Data Processing]
  • Operates and maintains Imaging equipment in a safe manner. Adheres to all infection control standards. Properly wears Dosimetry badge and seeks to minimize radiation exposure. Employee job duties may include transport of pharmaceutical waste from the point of generation to a designated secure storage area. Employee will be required to complete initial training (prior to handling pharmaceutical waste) to include proper handling and transport of pharmaceutical waste, and proper selection, use and disposal of personal protective equipment.   • Performs a full range of imaging procedures and operates all imaging equipment in assigned department. Utilizes the knowledge and skills for age-specific factors necessary to perform safe and effective procedures on patients of all ages (neonate/infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatrics). Is willing to learn/adapt to new technologies and protocols and help develop the knowledge and competency of coworkers and students. [Clinical Competence]
  • Assists with data collection for KPIs while understanding the department performance trends and established standards. Contributes toward process improvement by serving on PI teams as assigned. Participates in patient satisfaction initiatives. Utilizes patient service recovery resources when appropriate. [Performance Improvement]
  • Attends department meetings consistently and promotes positive dialogue with respect to department objectives. Listens and is responsible to understand all agenda items. [Department Meeting Attendance]
  • May perform waived and/or non-waived Point of Care Testing. If performing non-waived Point of Care Testing, as defined in AHCA rule 59A-7.034, must have approved competency and documented proof (copy of either diploma or transcript, at the highest level of academic achievement) at the time of AdventHealth non-waived Point of Care training.
  • If working as a CT Tech in a CT cost center with responsibilities under Job Class CTT, ECTT, NCTT, or WCTT, the requirements and duties of the CT Job Description for CT Tech I apply.
  • If working as an MRI Tech in an MRI cost center with the responsibilities under Job Class MRI, EMRI, NMRI, or WMRI, the requirements and duties of the MRI Job Description for MRI Tech I apply.
  • For Pain Medicine cost centers only: Assists the RN with the preparation of the patient for the procedure, including transport and positioning. Performs duties to support the patient flow and daily operations of the unit including stocking and ordering of supplies, room turnover, and transportation.
  • For Orlando Fracture care cost center only: May function in the role of Surgical Assistant III under the direction of the RN which includes, case preparation, sterile supply opening, scrubbing for procedures to hold retractors, limbs, or camera only. Assisting with room turnover and patient transport.
  • For Nicholson Center only: Working with cadavers, operates c-arm for the length of day during training classes for surgeons.
  • For Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL) – cost center 7217 only: May position patients for ESWL and assists the urologist in ESWL procedures. Operates ESWL equipment as needed upon completion of ESWL training and competency verification.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure the smooth operation of the department.
