You will be responsible for:

  • Takes primary responsibility for all plumbing related repairs, upgrades, and installation of new equipment.
  • Takes primary responsibility for all medical gas system related repairs, upgrades, and installation of new equipment
  • Takes primary responsibility for all Backflow Preventer repairs and certifications.
  • Takes primary responsibility for all Steam Trap inspections and repairs.
  • Estimates material requirements and costs of repairs.
  • Studies blueprints and sketches and determines correctness of piping installation by outside contractors.
  • Must be familiar with all applicable plumbing codes.
  • Reports status of projects to the Plant Operations Manager and Director.
  • Understands and complies with the Environment of Care/Infection Control Responsibilities.
  • Other duties as needed or assigned.

You will need:

  • Ability to read, comprehend at the 12th grade level
  • Ability to work with pipes, usually in tight, confined spaces, requires the strength to hold up pipework, appliances, or toilets, and the ability to hold pipe fittings steady, while having good control of your hands to manipulate small objects. You will need to have good vision to thread fittings, read small gauges and interpret blueprints.
  • Ability to work alone, figure out the reason on your own and self-motivation to keep yourself on task.
  • Ability to follow safety protocols.
  • Have attention to detail when installing pipe systems for gas, water, steam and other liquids.
  • Ability to install appliances like refrigerators, dishwashers, and water softeners.
  • Ability to look up and interpret building codes using manuals or internet and locate contractors to complete plumbing and medical gas related work.
  • Ability to diagnose plumbing issues and make sound recommendations. 
  • Ability to weld and perform pressure test on pipe systems.
  • Ability to use Outlook e-mail, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel.
  • Certified Brazer for medical gas pipe systems.
  • Will be required to learn all building infrastructure systems to the point of being an operator and maintainer.  Learning will occur through a combination of formal schools, mentoring, and self-education through research of operation manuals and the internet.
  • Systems to maintain are boilers, chillers, pumps, cooling towers, variable speed drives, constant speed drives, generators, fuel pumping systems, domestic potable water heaters, medical vacuum pump system, medical and mechanical air compressor systems, high pressure bottles gasses used in med- gas systems, air handlers, VAV boxes, backflow preventers, steam traps, feed water tanks, valves, fire suppression sprinkler systems, fire alarm systems, building automation systems, basic electrical work such as outlet, switch, ballast and bulb replacement.
  • Will be required to take after hours on call availability on a rotational basis with the other maintenance staff.
  • Be present for all major work performed by contractors on plumbing and medical gas systems.
  • High School graduate or GED upon hire
  • 5 years plumbing experience upon hire
  • Current Florida driver’s license upon hire
  • Current Florida Plumbing Contractor Certification upon hire
  • Current Backflow Preventer Inspector Certification upon hire
  • 6005 - Medical Gas Systems Generalists (Preferred)
  • ASSE 6010 Medical Gas Installer Certification (Preferred)
  • 6020 – Medical Gas Systems Inspectors (Preferred)
  • 6030 – Medical Gas Systems Verifiers (Preferred)
  • ASSE 6040 Maintenance and Testing (Preferred)
