PRN Days

You Will Be Responsible For:

•      Provides care for assigned patients within scope of practice including assessment, ordering and interpreting of diagnostic tests, diagnosis, development of treatment plan, prescribing of medications, and/or referral to specialist when appropriate. 

•      Provides adequate documentation in patient chart and accurately identifies ICD9 and CPT codes on encounter form. 

•      Ensures proper patient follow-up.  Maintains active communication with physician supervisors regarding chart reviews and quality improvement. 

•      Supervises the skills and performance of assigned medical technician(s). 

•      Follows all departmental safety policies and procedures regarding patient care and one’s personal protection and patient safety. 

•      Promotes and participates in teamwork with physician’s, other extenders, and clinic personnel.  

Qualifications

What You Will Need:

•    Must hold a current license as a Physician Assistant by the Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners 

•    Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

•     Must hold a current certificate in BLS fromthe American Heart Association.


Job Summary:

To provide acute, diagnostic, maintenance and preventive care to pediatric, adult and geriatric patients in a primary care setting in accordance with the policies, procedures and approved protocols of the clinic.

Knowledge and Skills Required:      

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Effective communication among employees, and between employees, patients, visitors and supervisors is essential to ensure quality patient care and to avoid misunderstanding, errors and miscommunications which could have a detrimental effect on the health, safety and well-being of patients and co-workers. 
  • In addition to these communication and safety concerns, individuals in this position must be able to effectively review patient and related medical records, understand nurse and/or physician verbal and written instructions, read labels of medications and hazardous chemicals.  Therefore, to prevent misunderstandings, errors, and miscommunications in the provision of quality patient care and other job-related services, employees in this position are required to have the capability of fluently speaking, reading, and writing English.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Must have some knowledge and experience in performing the duties associated with acute, diagnostic, maintenance and preventive care for pediatric, adult and geriatric patients in a primary care setting.  Must have some computer experience, working with a healthcare software computer system is desirable.
