Physical Therapist Assistant - Cardiac ICU and PCU – Rehabilitation - Orlando

AdventHealth Orlando seeks to hire Physical Therapist Assistant - Cardiac ICU and PCU who will embrace our mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ.



Facility Profile:

Located on a lush tropical campus, our flagship hospital, 1,368-bed AdventHealth Orlando, serves as the major tertiary facility for much of the Southeast, the Caribbean and South America. AdventHealth Orlando houses one of the largest Emergency Departments and largest cardiac catheterization labs in the country. We are already one of the busiest hospitals in the nation, providing service excellence to more than 32,000 inpatients and 125,000 outpatients each year.



Department Profile:

The Rehabilitation Department at AdventHealth Orlando provide services to our acute care patient population with a variety of diagnoses. Our highly skilled therapists work in interdisciplinary teams comprised of Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech and Swallow Therapy, as well as Recreational Therapy. The teams consist of experts in the following areas: Cardiovascular, Neurosciences, Orthopedics, Children’s, Comprehensive/Medical, Lymphedema, and Wound Care. We also provide services to our CARF accredited 10 beds IP Rehabilitation Hospital. Our team completes over 3,000 evaluations and 10,000 treatments per month supported by over 160 staff members including therapists, assistants and support staff.



Work Hours/Shifts:

Saturday – Wednesday; 8a – 4:30p



Job Summary:

As a Physical Therapist Assistant, you will make providing service your priority while caring for the whole person in a faith-based atmosphere. Provides direct and indirect services to specific age groups in the acute care, inpatient and/or outpatient rehabilitation settings. Utilizes process improvement in achieving the goals of the Rehabilitation & Sports Medicine Department. Adheres to the AdventHealth Corporate Compliance Plan and to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state and federal agencies, and accrediting bodies. May supervise other Physical Therapist Assistants, Physical Therapist Assistant interns, technical aides and volunteers. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.



Knowledge, Skills, Education, & Experience Required:

  • Entry-level professional competency of Physical Therapy practice, theory, principles and applications as defined in competencies departmental policy
  • Associate’s degree in Physical Therapy
  • Basic computer skills to include Outlook, Microsoft Office and Windows (Preferred)


Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:

  • Current valid State of Florida license as a Physical Therapist Assistant.
  • Temporary State of Florida permit as Physical Therapist Assistant*
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
  • •Those employees working on a temporary permit can only practice under the direct supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist supervising no more than one “permittee” at any given time. The supervising physical therapist must be licensed for a minimum of six months before the supervision period begins and must cosign all patient records.


Job Responsibilities:

  • •Based on the findings and goals established by the Physical Therapist evaluation, the Therapist Assistant implements an individualized treatment plan of care utilizing Practice Standards and recommended techniques, insurance guidelines and patient’s needs. Modifies treatment plan as appropriate based upon on-going assessments and consultation with the Physical Therapist.
  • Collects patient data and communicates to the Physical Therapist regarding discharge recommendations when maximum benefit has been achieved and/or according to the standards of practice and payer guidelines.
  • Documents accurately, completely, and timely with legible handwriting. Uses measurable and objective terminology, following standards of practice, insurance guidelines and department /hospital policy and procedures.
  • Charges patients accurately, timely and legibly according to guidelines of the CPT code format, price file and according to insurance guidelines.
  • Utilizes knowledge of growth and development for assigned patient age population. Evaluates for age-appropriate behavior, motor skills and physiological norms of the patient. Interprets data relative to patient age. Modifies approach and communication skills appropriate to the patient served, which may include: Neonate/Infant (birth < 1), Pediatric (1 < 12 yrs), Adolescent (12 < 18 yrs), Adult (18 < 65 yrs) and Geriatric (65 + yrs).
  • Identifies the need for patient/caregiver education and utilizes each opportunity for teaching on a planned or spontaneous basis. Documents education and understanding, as appropriate.
  • Participates in practice changes as a result of performance improvement activities. Supports quality standards and initiatives set by the department.
  • Practices principles of professional development by maintaining clinical competencies, using best and/or evidence-based practices and serving as a clinical instructor.
  • Meets at least 90% of productivity standard.
  • Willingly adjusts and adapts to changes in patient census by altering working hours to assist in other centers/programs as approved and observed by manager.
  • Practices principles of employee and patient safety when performing daily job activities via observation.
  • Complies with FH Compliance Plan, rules and regulations of all local, state, and federal agencies, and with the standards of all accrediting bodies and payors as evident through documentation reviews, tracers and rounds results. Takes responsibility for the environment of care by monitoring and taking action as needed.
