The largest health care provider in Johnson County, Kansas, the SMH network includes SMMC and SMH - Prairie Star and will soon include SMH - Blue Valley, a third major health care facility. Our 54-acre campus at SMMC is comprised of the main hospital, a community health education building, six physician office buildings and an associate child care center. The Emergency Department at SMMC is the busiest in Johnson County. We deliver more babies each year at the Shawnee Mission Birth Center than any other hospital in the metropolitan area and our Center for Women’s Health is nationally recognized. We have seven Shawnee Mission Primary Care locations with more than 30 Board-certified doctors who specialize in family medicine, internal medicine and pediatrics as well as Centra Care Shawnee Mission Urgent Care locations.

You will be responsible for:

  • Maintains broad knowledge base including trouble shooting of Pyxis® and Cerner® information systems.
  • Appropriately prioritizes so that STAT and urgent orders are handled to ensure no unnecessary delays in patient care.
  • Demonstrates efficient use of time by minimizing the amount of orders put on hold and delegating tasks to students and technicians whenever possible and appropriate.
  • Assures that a complete review of patient specific parameters is conducted prior to initiating a new medication.
  • Appropriately documents all performed clinical interventions to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Adheres to the hospital formulary, intervening with prescriber as necessary.
  • Participates in department interventional programs and consistently documents efforts.
  • Consistently reports all medication errors, potential errors and adverse drug reactions using the hospitals reporting mechanism.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to the profession and to the quality of care provided by the department by participating in professional organizations, professional seminars, or maintaining advanced certification.
  • Communicates verbally and in writing in a professional manner.

What will you need?

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy
  • 1 to 2 Years of Position-Related Experience
  • Computer skills
  • Kansas Pharmacy License
  • BCLS obtained through the American Heart Association Preferred
  • Master’s Degree in Pharmacy Preferred
  • PharmD Preferred
  • 2 to 5 Years of Position-Related Experience Preferred
  • Registered Preceptor with Board of Pharmacy Preferred
  • Board Certification – BCPS, BCPP or BCOP Preferred
  • ACLS obtained through the American Heart Association (must be obtained within 6 months of hire) Preferred
