Clinical Radiologist Facilitator

GENERAL SUMMARY:

       The Clinical Radiology Facilitator, reporting to the Radiology Facilitator Supervisor, fulfills the responsibilities necessary to assist the radiologist to streamline workflow process.  Coordinates and manages exams once they reach Picture Archiving Communication Systems (PACS), ensuring a timely reading and report delivery to ordering and referring physicians.  Evaluates studies, recognizes discrepancies and resolves issues or brings to the attention of the Radiologist.  These responsibilities involve participation in a variety of technical and administrative processes which deliver quality care to physicians, ancillary staff and patients. 

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

WORKLISTS

•       Assists Radiologist by monitoring and prioritizing all the PACS worklists for critical exams, STAT exams, established turn-around times for exams, incomplete or broken studies, corrects hanging protocols, one off reads.

•       Evaluates images for completeness, diagnostic quality and correct hanging protocol.

•       Responsible for identifying incorrect sequences and imaging.

•       Follows up with exams that are incomplete or incorrect to have the exams fixed by the technologist or department manager in a timely manner for dictation.

•       Multi-tasks by monitoring worklists, handling multiple phone lines, performing administrative functions such as maintaining reading room cleanliness, and when authorized by Medical Staff, assisting with procedures.

COMMUNICATION

•       Assists the Radiologist with providing timely results to ancillary departments and physician offices.

•       Connects physician to physician phone calls and minimizes phone calls into the read rooms.

•       Personally follows through with communicating clinical information and observations to the radiologists, referring physicians, and other healthcare providers.

•       Provides warm phone transfers to Radiologists and other departments.

 

SCHEDULE

•       Adheres to scheduled shifts and providing proper advanced notification of tardiness, absences and vacation requests.

•       Maintains awareness of the Radiologists and Resident’s schedules, worklist rotations and meetings.

•       Coordinates “on call” technologists and Radiology Nurses for IR procedures when requested by the Radiologist.

 

PROCESS IMPROVEMENT:

•       Assists with data collection for process improvement initiatives while understanding the department performance trends and established standards. 

•       Contributes toward process improvement by submitting ideas at staff meetings and directly to RSF management. 

 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

•    Demonstrates calm, professional and effective listening and speaking skills, and applies nonverbal communication techniques as appropriate during all communication.

•    Ability to handle multiple phone lines (incoming and outgoing).

•    Demonstrates a willingness to learn/adapt to new technologies and protocols and help develop the knowledge and competency of coworkers and Radiology team members.

•    Proficiency in multi-tasking by monitoring worklists, handling multiple phone lines, performing administrative functions such as maintaining reading room cleanliness, and when authorized by Medical Staff, assisting with procedures.

•    Skill with Microsoft Office

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS PREFERRED:

•         N/A

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

•    Associate’s degree

•    One (1) year experience

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

•    Bachelor’s degree in Radiological Sciences or Healthcare related field of study

•    One or more years experience in Radiology Department



LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:

•    Registered Technologist Radiography RT(R) from American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (AART)

•    Current Florida State License in Radiology

•    Basic Life Support (BLS)

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION PREFERRED:

•    Advanced modality certification (CT, MRI, Nuclear, VI))
