You Will Be Responsible For:
  • The paramedic is a professional who works under the direction of the Registered Nurse, within the scope
  • of the paramedic practice, provides care to patients in accordance with hospital mission and patient care
  • policies and procedures.
  • Communicates, collects, reports accurate patient care data to appropriate members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Performs ongoing observations on patients under the direction of the RN
  • Collects data for the assessment of patient/family needs in relation to care, condition, and education
  • Documents in the electronic medical record the patient/family status and response to treatment
  • Anticipates patient care problems and informs the RN/physician.
  • Participates in the patient/family care, utilizing established techniques as part of the multidisciplinary team
  • Assists in the admission, transfer and discharge of patients as directed by the RN.
  • Establishes priorities of patient care based on the needs of the patients.
  • Provides patient care as delegated by the RN.
  • Maintains accurate documentation in the electronic medical record.
  • Performs ordered 12 lead EKGs as directed by the RN.
  • Accurately and safely performs the insertion of a saline lock, long term IV, and urinary catherization, and may be responsible for pulling arterial and venous sheaths.
  • Maintains aseptic technique, demonstrating knowledge of infection control practices.
  • Accurately sets up and assists with procedures under the direct supervision of the RN/physician.
  • Recognizes emergency situations and acts appropriately.
  • Maintains a safe environment within the hospital for patients and families.
  • Maintains the patient’s environment in a manner that promotes cleanliness, patient comfort and safety.
  • Maintains current clinical, technical and professional competencies
  • Accepts responsibility for one’s own professional standards
  • Accepts responsibility for one’s own actions by initiating the incident report mechanisms.
  • Incorporates new procedures and philosophies into one’s work performance.
  • Attends a minimum of 8 scheduled staff meetings annually.
  • Attends mandatory hospital in-services annually.
  • Complies with departmental, divisional and hospital policies and standards.
  • Demonstrates awareness of the rising costs of healthcare and implements budgetary containment measures.
  • Maintains equipment in its proper working condition; identifies malfunctioning equipment and takes appropriate action.
  • Seeks and accepts constructive criticism and implements actions designed for self improvement.
  • Assists in the organization and operations of the unit via guidelines, policy, and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.
What You Will Need:
  • Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned service area as indicated below. The skills and knowledge needed to provide such care may be gained through education, training, or experience.
  • Florida Paramedic license (Required)
  • Florida Paramedic license (Required)
  • BLS’s (Required - condition of employment)
  • ACLS (Required -condition of employment)
  • Crisis Management (Required -within 6 months of employment)
  • Previous EMT/Paramedic experience (Preferred)
  • Previous 12 lead EKG experience (Preferred)
  • Previous venipuncture experience (Preferred)
