Work Hours/Shift:
Full Time/ Nights
12 hour shifts
3 shifts per week
 
You Will Be Responsible For:
The following competencies are foundational to the departmental workflow.  All MT/CAs should strive to perform and master the competencies listed below.

  • Clean and maintain the telemetry battery packs.
  • Maintain a neat and clean patient environment by changing linens, emptying trash and keeping hallways clean and free of clutter and equipment.
  • Perform environmental tasks as delegated with minimal supervision.
  • I will promote teamwork and nurture relationships so as to be seen as a positive member of the healthcare team.
  • Support the goals of the department and adheres to all organizational and departmental policies.
  • Attend all required staff meetings and mandatory training.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively to all customers, the RN and other members of the healthcare team.

  • Reviews current & prior rhythms and reports variances to nursing and physicians.

  • Demonstrates ability to comply with SMMC Central Telemetry Monitoring Patient Care Policy.
  • Demonstrates correct placement of telemetry leads to ensure accurate heart rhythm analysis. Notifies nursing staff when leads are off.
  • Obtain and record patient vital signs and intake and output as directed. 
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living.
  • Turn and reposition patients with or without assistance as directed.
  • Address customers by their preferred names.
  • Provide for privacy and dignity of all patients by closing doors and curtains when providing patient care.
  • I will ensure a safe environment for all patients, customers and team members.
  • Demonstrates ability to operate telemetry monitory equipment and pager system.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of patient safety policies and respond appropriately to organizational disaster codes.

Qualifications
What You Will Need:
•     High School Diploma or Equivalent
•     BCLS obtained through the American Heart Association
 
Job Summary:
The Monitor Technician/Clinical Associate is a non-licensed support person that functions as a member of the patient care team. They are responsible for monitoring heart rhythm patterns to detect record and report normal and abnormal heart rhythm patterns, normal and abnormal ECG interval measurements and proper and improper pacemaker or implantable defibrillator function utilizing telemetry equipment.  Additionally, the CA will be responsible for providing direct patient care and any assigned duties as designated by his/her competency level to ensure optimal patient care. The CA works under the guidance of a Registered Nurse.
