Florida Hospital Ocala opened its doors in 1898 as Marion General Hospital and has been in continuous operation since then. Then in 1928, the hospital was renamed to Munroe Memorial Hospital. Adventist Health System acquired Munroe Regional Medical and renamed it Florida Hospital Ocala in 2018. Florida Hospital Ocala is a 425-bed acute-care and offers a variety of services including, 24/7 Emergency Care, Diagnostic Testing, Inpatient and Outpatient Surgery, Women’s Services, and Inpatient and Outpatient Therapy. Performs work in one or more divisions or areas of the clinical laboratory to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease.
What you will responsible for:
  • Performs tests timely and with 99% accuracy, with special attention to high priority areas of the hospital, such as ER, OR, Cath Lab
  • Performs quality control and monitors results for evidence of problems with high degree of accuracy.                                          
  • Performs preventative maintenance as required.                                             
  • Always assays or calibrates new reagents, kits, and other material before put into use.  Documents reagents and kits when opened and placed into use.                                      
  • Maintains orderly and efficient arrangement of equipment and supplies in area worked.  Keeps work area clean, neat and well organized.  Cleans up after work is done and leaves counter well organized after shift is complete.                                      
  • Always notifies appropriate supervisory person of problems or questions that may arise in any department.
  • Troubleshoots test and or instrumentation with good problem-solving skills.  Performs tests and operates instrumentation with cost saving in mind but not to compromise accuracy.                                            
  • Is able to ascertain the integrity of samples and make the judgment to redrawn when needed.
  • Is able to enter and receive patient specimens in the LIS with accuracy."
  • Is able to use instrument interfaces with accuracy.                                          
  • Uses Delta Checks to review result history.                                           
  • Appropriately documents critical values in the LIS.                                           
  • Accurately enter patients' and QC results in LIS.                                              
  • Runs incomplete logs at the beginning, middle and end of shift for each department including Microbiology.                                   
  • Assists in training of new employees.                                         
  • Communicates with other departments with concern for patient's welfare.
  • Demonstrates positive problem-solving approach in resolving concerns or issues with other departments and medical staff as indicated by positive responses of all parties.
  • Takes an active role in ordering and maintaining appropriate supply levels with cost containment in mind and check reagents/controls expiration date.                                           
  • Communicates to next shift if any work is incomplete.             
  • Shares in accession duties with fellow staff members when need arises.                           
  • Interacts positively with fellow employees to build a strong laboratory team.
  • Performs proficiency testing for all disciplines in the laboratory that the employee is qualified to perform at a grade of 90% accuracy.                              
What you will need:
  • One of the following: Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology (preferred), Bachelor's Degree in a chemical, physical or biological science and one year of laboratory experience, Associates Degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences acceptable.
  • One year of laboratory experience, preferred.
  • BSMT (ASCP) preferred, Florida Licensure.
