Medical Physicist –Radiology Residency – Orlando

Florida Hospital Orlando seeks to hire a Medical Physicist who will embrace our mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ.

Job Summary:

Develops and provides in depth medical physics education for the Diagnostic Radiology Residency program. Provides medical physics services at or above the state of Florida and Federal requirements as well as meeting any national standards to ensure quality of care to patients and a safe work environment for staff. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful of all. 50% of time will be devoted to educational and administrative activities related to the Diagnostic Radiology Residency program. Other 50% of time will be devoted to clinical activities.

Knowledge, Skills, Education, & Experience Required:

  • Effective communication skills.
  • Broad knowledge of imaging equipment and technology.
  • Experience in clinical research
  • PhD level degree in Medical Physics or other similar physical science.
  • 0 to 1 year of experience in medical physics or other similar physical science
  • Completion of accredited Medical Physics Residency/Fellowship program (Preferred)
  • Knowledge of computers and networking.(Preferred)
  • Broad knowledge of imaging equipment and technology. (Preferred)
  • Experience in clinical research. (Preferred)

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:

  • Florida state licensure in Diagnostic Radiological Physics, Medical Health Physics or Medical Physicist in Training (working towards completion of certification)
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible (working towards completion of certification) by the American Board of Radiology or the American Board of Medical Physics in an appropriate subspecialty (diagnostic radiological physics, medical health physics or nuclear medical physics)

  • Responsible for the creation of physician curriculum for the Radiology Residency as directed by the Program Director..
  • Actively participates in instructing Diagnostic Radiology Residents through continuous didactic and interactive classroom lectures..
  • Responsible for direct supervision and instruction of Radiology Residents while in the clinical department as directed by the Program Director.
  • Actively participates in the radiation safety program at Florida Hospital. This includes involvement with ALARA program, I-131 clinical radiotherapy program, clinical audit program, shielding design and survey, patient and personnel dosimetry calculations, and regulatory compliance.
  • Actively participates/oversees in developing new programs and technologies as directed by Chief Diagnostic Physicist/Radiation Safety Officer. This also includes Quality Improvement initiatives.
  • Performs/oversees physics testing of all imaging equipment throughout the facility and reports findings in an appropriate and timely manner as directed by the Chief Diagnostic Physicist/ Radiation Safety Officer. Provides medical physics consultation/education to physicians, staff and patients as needed.
  • Participates/oversees in the quality assurance programs of departments served as needed, from supervision up to performing the tests. Engages residents in patient safety and quality activities as an integral component of their teaching responsibilities.
  • Assists with acceptance testing and commissioning of new equipment or new areas of use.
  • Attends meetings as required consistently and promotes positive dialogue with respect to department objectives
  • Provides clinical supervision of Junior Physicists.
