Our multi-facility campus includes 148 acute-care beds at Metroplex Adventist Hospital in Killeen, 60 psychiatric care beds in the nearby Metroplex Behavioral Health Center, and 25 beds at Rollins Brook Community Hospital in Lampasas. Through this Metroplex Health System, we offer a Women’s Center, Sleep Disorder Center, Endoscopy Center, Pediatric Rehabilitation Center, ICU, PCU, ED, imaging, surgery, home health services, and more.

Performs Direct patient care activities that are developmental and age specific for the population served; The Licensed Vocational Nurse is under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse and the assigned charge nurses. This care is consistent with the hospital accountabilities, Standards of Practice and in support of the Nursing Service and patient care goals. Actual roles and tasks may vary depending upon the unit or department assigned. Effectively communicates with the RN, Nurse Manager, Nursing Supervisor, and the physician any patient needs.


•  Adheres to the policies and procedures as related to the clinical area.

•  Responsible for the application of guidelines and standards accordance      with current practices.

•  Patient Care activities include, but not limited to:

•  Prioritizing work utilizing the Electronic Medical Record

•  Reviews medical record to assess needs

•  Completing assessments, and data histories

•  Instructs/educates patients and/or significant other, documents properly

•  Provide adequate supplies according to patient needs

•  Provides patient care in a safe manner utilizing evidence based practice for quality outcomes

•  Has knowledge of and understands current TJC Standards for the clinical aspect of the department.

•  Manages time effectively.

•  Acts in patient’s best interest as the patient’s advocate and promotes teamwork with physicians and all health care providers.

•  Assists in departmental, hospital and community in-services/education when assigned.

•  Actively participates in Performance Improvement initiatives.

•  Upholds professional standards of performance and conduct.

•  Excellent interpersonal communication skills.

•  Involved in the review and planning of patient care.

•  Actively participates in staff meetings.

•  Provide follow up phone calls to patients

 What you will need

            •  License in Vocational or Practical Nursing.

  • BLS Certification by the American Heart Association.
  • Applicable Certifications Per Unit Requirements
  • Must be able to handle clinical situations requiring use of sound professional judgment and critical-thinking skills. This includes clinical assessment, data, and patient response. 
  • The employee is responsible for providing quality patient care. 
  • Must be able to continuously prioritize multiple duties
  • Must be able to function in a calm and professional manner during stressful situations.
  • Assessment, reassessment and critical-thinking skills must be utilized in dealing with changes in patient outcomes. Basic computer skills are required.
