Job Description


The Manager of Medical Oncology is responsible for providing IT management and direction for designing, implementing, and supporting a strategic portfolio of IT systems and initiatives across the Adventist Health System. This robust portfolio includes medical oncology systems, business intelligence, and data warehousing in addition to other emerging technology strategies that align to medical oncology, analytics and business intelligence.

The position leads-out on team-building, roadmap execution, change management, issue management, vendor management and stakeholder communications. The position participates in strategic planning and risk mitigation. Under minimal supervision of an AIT Director or Vice President, this position requires the development and broad socialization of IT concepts and IT roadmaps through Adventist Health System's highly-matrixed, integrated delivery network. The Manager develops relationships with Adventist Health System leadership and engages key stakeholders (independent/employed physicians, employees, vendors) to facilitate the conceptualization, approval, and deployment of large-scale IT projects within AHS's defined IT governance structures. This position mentors and leads a diverse array of IT team members to execute on the IT strategies that Adventist Health System has approved and acts as a subject matter expert, in their assigned portfolio. 

As part of service organization, the Manager actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

  • Executes a comprehensive IT roadmap based on IT strategy for each area of the IT portfolio (Medical Oncology Systems, Business Intelligence / Data Warehousing, Population Health, Community Interoperability, etc.)
  • Coordinates and collaborates with leaders and key stakeholders on IT portfolio and roadmap
  • Ensures effective processes are in place to foster open lines of communications with leaders, physicians, and staff relating to IT roadmap. Ensures information is communicated vertically and laterally to other departments as needed, and keeps leadership informed of any issues
  • Participates in collaboration and communication with Adventist Health System's Divisions for Population Health and Analytics Research 
  • Ensures team members are highly engaged and current on best practices, standards, and technology
  • Leads team members in complex problem analysis, issue resolution, and application enhancement/optimization of use
  • Initiates investigations and corrective action plans as needed
  • Ensures AIT team works collaboratively with others in successfully supporting strategic and other initiatives
  • Uses management judgment in calculated risk taking and risk mitigation around strategic IT initiatives
  • Provides direction, leadership, and management of IT initiatives across the Adventist Health System

  • Ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements

Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure smooth and efficient direction of the AIT department.


  • Working-knowledge of industry best practices related to Medical Oncology systems

  • Minimum of five years IT or healthcare experience
  • Minimum of five years management experience
  • Experience working effectively in a highly-matrixed organization and with major clinical IT platforms
  • Experience working with vendors
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business, Healthcare, Healthcare Administration, or other related field

  • Master’s in Business Administration (MBA), Master’s in Healthcare Administration (MHA), or other  advanced credentials highly preferred
  • Programming and data processing problem analysis experience with an emphasis in healthcare or business applications
  • Experience implementing and managing information system deployments and ongoing support
