IRF-PAI Coordiantor – Inpatient Rehab Center – AdventHealth Winter Park

AdventHealth Winter Park seeks to hire a IRF-PAI Coordiantor who will embrace our mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ.

Chartered in 1951, the hospital has grown from the visionary efforts of a handful of Winter Park residents and community leaders, to a 307-bed acute care facility that is a model of community health and wellness. Department Profile:

AdventHealth Winter Park is the home to a new, 50 bed, state-of-of-the-art Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility which is scheduled to open in October of 2019. Advanced technologies and equipment are integrated into the care delivery model and physical design to optimize patient outcomes. Patients in the Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility receive aggressive therapy services and whole person care to assist them in restoring their capabilities and returning home. Each team member of the Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility is vitally important to the patient’s success through an integrated, whole-person approach to rehabilitative care. The AdventHealth Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility, founded in 1961, is accredited for Comprehensive, Stroke, and Brain Injury specialty programs through the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilitates.

Job Summary:

The IRF – PAI Coordinator coordinates the data collection on the Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility Patients Assessment Instrument (IRF-PAI). In collaboration with managers ensures compliance with CMS guidelines regarding proper scoring and documentation to capture all necessary information required for the completion of the IRF-PAI. Transmits data to CMS utilizing the submission specifications timely and accurately. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. .

Knowledge, Skills, Education, & Experience Required:

  • Broad clinical and regulatory knowledge of CMS guidelines for completion of the Inpatient Rehabilitation Patient Assessment Instrument
  • Initiative and ability to work independently (self-direction), while thriving in a setting requiring collaboration and teamwork for maximal efficiency and effectiveness
  • Organizational, attention to detail to examine and interpret clinical and numeric data
  • Associate degree in healthcare, business administration, or related field
  • Two years assessing and interpreting patient clinical and functional data in a hospital, outpatient, home health or skilled nursing facility (SNF) setting
  • Effective computer skills, particularly Microsoft Office (Outlook, Power Point, Word, Excel) (preferred)

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:

  • Licensed in the State of Florida in a Health-related discipline (RN, OTA, OT, PT, PTA or ST)
  • CPR Certification

Job Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates the inpatient rehabilitation facility–patient assessment instrument (IRF-PAI) process according to State and Federal guidelines. Stays advised and implements all regulatory changes/updates related to the Federal Rule. Provides clinical patient intervention, as appropriate in order to ensure completions of the IRF-PAI and ensure each IRFPAI form is completely, accurately and timely transmitted to CMS and documented in the medical record.
  • Reviews medical records to assure that clinical documentation supports quality indicators. Confers with the clinical team members regarding the scoring of quality indicators to assist in resolution of any inconsistencies.
  • Reviews all Rehabilitation Impairment Categories and current International Statistical Classification of Diseases (ICD) admission codes to assure congruence and proper Coding for the IRF-PAI. Makes any necessary changes in collaboration with the clinical team and physician. Acts as the primary resource for immediate problem-solving regarding Medicare's IRF prospective.
  • Acts as the primary resource for immediate problem-solving regarding Medicare's IRF prospective payment system (quality indicators, impairment group coding, tiering distribution, coverage and classification criteria and quality reporting program requirements).
  • Sets prescribed IRF-PAI completion dates for the interdisciplinary team and monitors outstanding accounts. Ensures all documentation by all health care professionals and physicians is completed in a timely manner and contains necessary components as required by regulatory bodies and payors.
  • Participates in the orientation of the new staff and collaborates with managers to provide staff with feedback. Provides technical assistance to staff and physicians regarding quality indicators, measurement methodology and charting techniques.
  • Supports the development of policies, procedures and work instructions to support the accurate completion of the IRF-PAI. Interprets them and ensures compliance.
