Hyperbaric Medicine Tech - Advanced Practice - Wound Care - Kissimmee

AdventHealth Kissimmee seeks to hire a Hyperbaric Medicine Tech who will embrace our mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ.



Facility Profile:

AdventHealth Kissimmee is a 163 bed community-focused hospital, conveniently located near Walt Disney World. The team here is dedicated to bringing mission-focused, faith-based care to residents and visitors of Osceola and Orange Counties. At the heart of our latest expansion is a new, three-story tower featuring 80 expansive, private patient rooms and a host of modern amenities and technologies. Department Profile:

Our Wound Care Clinic is located in one of the fastest-growing communities in Osceola County, close to Walt Disney World entertainment and local attractions. AdventHealth is using wound-specific Electronic Medical Records, to capture patient, treatment, outcomes and other data. This clinic consists of patient care planning and implementation, and working on patient care quality improvement to ensure optimal healing outcomes and patient satisfaction. This outreach combined with our passionate and team-oriented staff offers the most varied and extensive experience in the Wound specialty.



Work Hours/Shifts:

8am-5pm; M-F



Job Summary:

Performs patient care duties, as appropriate, according to his or her scope of practice and under direct supervision of a licensed healthcare professional. Provides direct and indirect hyperbaric oxygen therapy to various age groups. Accompanies patients in chamber while undergoing hyperbaric oxygen therapy and delivers medical care appropriate to the level of medical training. Safely and effectively operates and maintains the hyperbaric chambers, related systems and ancillary components. Makes necessary recommendations for departmental safety policies and incorporates new safety procedures as appropriate. Provides leadership and safety training to other hyperbaric facility personnel. Has the authority to restrict or remove potentially hazardous supply and equipment items from the chamber. Maintains all facility safety related standards as required by various licensing and regulatory agencies. Supports clinical hyperbaric facility accreditation. Utilizes the APIE process (assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating) to achieve the goals of the HBO2 department. Adheres to the AdventHealth Corporate Compliance Plan and all rules and regulations of applicable local, state and federal agencies/accrediting bodies. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.



Knowledge, Skills, Education, & Experience Required:

  • Ability to communicate by reading, writing legibly, speaking and comprehending English effectively to carry out job requirements.
  • Computer knowledge and skills.(Preferred)
  • Working knowledge of all applicable hyperbaric safety codes.(Preferred)
  • Working knowledge of decompression procedures.(Preferred)
  • Completion of a 40 hour Underwater and Hyperbaric Medicine Society (UHMS) or National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine Technology (NBDHMT) approved Hyperbaric Medicine Introductory Course.
  • Completion of an Underwater and Hyperbaric Medicine Society (UHMS) or National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine Technology (NBDHMT) approved hyperbaric director safety course.
  • Experience with military hyperbaric chamber systems or commercial diving systems. (Preferred)
  • High School Diploma. (Preferred)



Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:

  • Credentialed as Hyperbaric Technologist/ Diver Medic.
  • Basic Life Support (BCLS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification. (Preferred)



Job Responsibilities:

Demonstrates through behavior AdventHealth’s Core Values of Keep Me Safe, Love Me, Make it Easy, and Own it as outlined in the organization’s Performance Excellence Program.
  • Accompanies patients in the chamber while undergoing hyperbaric oxygen therapy and delivers medical care appropriate to the level of medical training. Performs duties and procedures as directed by supervisor and medical director, as appropriate to scope of practice.
  • Administers hyperbaric oxygen therapy to patients as prescribed by the hyperbaric physician. Keeps complete and accurate patient record as they pertain to treatment documentation.
  • Operates all hyperbaric chamber systems and related components. Maintains operating and maintenance documentation in accordance with hyperbaric facility policy and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintains department compliance with current edition of NFPA 99: Health Care Facilities chapter on hyperbaric facilities, unit safety policies and procedures. Fosters a positive relationship between the department and local fire marshal, emergency medical services director, and pressure vessel inspector.
  • Reviews all department safety incidents, and collects information regarding equipment and patient safety. Reports relevant incidents to staff and routinely provides in-service training on accident prevention.
  • Works closely with Nurse Manager and Medical Director to develop and annually review department policies and procedures. Reviews operational maintenance manuals in accordance with local policy.
  • Works closely with the Nurse Manager to coordinate and approve all hyperbaric chamber upgrades, modifications, and repairs to the hyperbaric system. Interacts with hospital maintenance personnel and outside contractors. Ensures testing of all modification is performed before manned pressurization. Evaluates hyperbaric chamber equipment and supplies used in the chamber. Ensures all safety requirements are met before they are permitted inside the chamber.
  • Maintains a safe environment in the hyperbaric facility for patients and staff. Uses approved and recognized decompression procedures for all persons with a hyperbaric exposure to inert gases.
  • Serves as one of the hyperbaric facility’s technical trainers. Provides routine in-service training related to various aspects of hyperbaric physiology, decompression requirements, equipment
