Our multi-facility campus includes 148 acute-care beds at Metroplex Adventist Hospital in Killeen, 60 psychiatric care beds in the nearby Metroplex Behavioral Health Center, and 25 beds at Rollins Brook Community Hospital in Lampasas. Through this Metroplex Health System, we offer a Women’s Center, Sleep Disorder Center, Endoscopy Center, Pediatric Rehabilitation Center, ICU, PCU, ED, imaging, surgery, home health services, and more.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Manages the policies and procedures as related to the Anatomic Pathology section.
  • Meets all responsibility requirements for a clinical laboratory supervisor as defined and is applicable in state laws.
  • Has knowledge of and understands current College of American Pathology (CAP) accreditation requirements for the department.
  • Adheres to all requirements as required by state law.
  • Responsible for all aspects of histology and cytology services. Ensures the daily efficient operation of the section in a manner consistent with the philosophies of the department director and hospital administration.
  • Ensures continuing education and training are provided for all section personnel.
  • Researches and implements new procedures as needed. Maintains adequate procedure manuals for all tests performed in the section. Prepares and updates as needed, but at least annually, the Anatomic Pathology Section manual.
  • Maintains an active quality control program which encompasses technologists’ and technicians’ performance and education, instrumentation, reagents, supplies and procedure as well as statistical evaluation of results.
  • Operates, calibrates, maintains and supervises operation of all related histology and cytology equipment: establishes and maintains quality control records and all histology/cytology/files. Maintains a complete record of all routine and emergency repairs and preventive maintenance on all equipment.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists and trains other section technical staff, to assist physicians in performance of fine needle aspirations and immediate microscopic evaluation of specimen adequacy.
  • The time management expectation is 60% is supervisory activity and 40% bench-level technical work.
  • Reporting to the Anatomic Pathology Section Supervisor are all histology technologists, cytotechnologists, technicians and any others assigned to the department. This position may also be referred to by the alternate title of laboratory section supervisor.
  • Evaluates the quality of Histology and Cytology preparations, and troubleshoots, coordinates, and addresses quality concerns.
Qualifications
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
  • Bachelor’s degree, Associates Degree or completion of an accredited Histology program in clinical laboratory science. With an/or emphasis in one of the chemical or biological sciences or, 
  • Board registered or eligible for registry as a histology technologist or cytotechnologist with one of the national registries associated with laboratory practice (ASCP etc.)
  • Five years’ experience as a bench level technologist with emphasis in clinical histology or cytology.
  • HT (ASCP)
  • HTL (ASCP) preferred
