Healthcare Documentation Quality Specialist - Maitland

Florida Hospital Maitland seeks to hire a Healthcare Documentation Quality Specialist who will embrace our mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ.

Established in 1908, Florida Hospital is one of the largest not-for-profit healthcare systems in the country, caring for more than a million patients each year. Monday – Friday; 8am – 4:30pm

Job Summary:

The HealthCare Documentation Quality Specialist is a highly skilled Medical Transcriptionist (MT) with proven experience in the medical transcription profession. Reviews and coordinates a random review of documents, which includes the process of monitoring, measuring, and reporting transcribed documents provided by vendor transcriptionists and documents reviewed by their editors. Analyzes transcription data and prepare reports as requested. Adheres to the Florida Hospital policies and procedures while ensuring the adherence to all rules and regulations of all local, state and federal agencies and accrediting bodies. Maintains the confidentiality of employees, patients, administrative staff and functions, and medical staff information with no infractions. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

Knowledge, Skills, Education, & Experience Required:

  • Advanced knowledge of medical terminology, pharmacology, laboratory terminology, anatomy and physiology, and English grammar
  • Ability to work in all work types and specialties
  • Knowledge of computers, software, and internet applications
  • Expertise in the ability to decipher many different dialects in dictation
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including grammar, punctuation, and style, in order to provide consistent quality feedback to the supervisor of the transcriptionists
  • Ability to multi-task with multiple priorities and time frames
  • Ability to work independently with minimal or no supervision
  • Organizational skills for file management
  • Mathematical skills, including calculations and statistics
  • Ability to communicate quality assurance (QA) concerns/questions effectively with
  • client/user
  • In-depth knowledge of medical transcription guidelines (The AAMT Book of Style, as well as, the Style Guide approved by Florida Hospital), and practices
  • At least 5 years of proven hospital experience with broad knowledge of all specialties, including transplant and multiple levels of Oncology)
  • Formal education in Anatomy, Physiology and medical terminology or equivalent experience (preferred)

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:

  • Certified Medical Transcriptionist (CMT) or Certified Healthcare Documentation Specialist (CHDS) issued by the Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity (AHDI)

Job Responsibilities:

Demonstrates through behavior Florida Hospital’s Core Values of Integrity, Compassion, Balance, Excellence, Stewardship and Teamwork as outlined in the organization’s Performance Excellence Program

  • Reviews and completes transcribed reports in the “Hold” queue, with blanks, against actual dictation. Applies industry-specific standards provided by current resources and references to provide timely and consistent feedback.
  • Reviews and completes reports in the “Hold” queue for 2-part dictations, dictated corrections, account number discrepancies, and work type discrepancies making appropriate corrections.
  • Reviews random selected reports from vendors using standard quality scoring criteria and calculates and scores reports consistently and fairly.
  • Completes random review report on a monthly basis and forwards them to manager.
  • Discusses physician dictation issues with management team to assist in assuring optimal dictation habits are being followed.
  • Interacts with all sections in Health Information Management (HIM) to ensure a smooth workflow of documentation completion ensuring reassignment of chart completion deficiencies as necessary.
  • Monitors reports in Fluency Manager for delays in reports being edited/transcribed. Notifies manager of consistent delays.
