AdventHealth Kissimmee seeks to hire an Director of Nursing who will embrace our mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ.

Facility Profile:

Adventhealth Kissimmee is an 83-bed community-focused hospital, conveniently located near Walt Disney World. The team here is dedicated to bringing mission-focused, faith-based care to residents and visitors of Osceola and Orange Counties. Adventhealth Kissimmee has recently expanded to include a new medical office building, patient tower, and new main entrance.

Job Summary:

The Director of Nursing is a registered professional nurse with comprehensive responsibility for the assessment, problem identification, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and coordination of all processes which impact the quality and quantity of care delivered to the patients of specific age groups identified by the standards of care. The Director of Nursing assures evaluation of outcomes that promote high quality practice delivery in assigned patient areas. The Director of Nursing provides leadership in the delivery of care and nursing practice both in the clinical unit and the organization. The Director of Nursing interacts with staff, and contributes to the professional development of the leadership team in her areas of responsibility, leadership peers, and other colleagues. The Director of Nursing collaborates as needed with all levels of nursing staff, interdisciplinary teams, executive leaders, and other stakeholders in relation to the delivery of quality care. The Director of Nursing acts as an advocate for the protections and rights of individuals, families, communities, populations, healthcare providers, nursing, other professions, institutions, and organizations, especially related to health and safety. The Director of Nursing accepts organizational accountability for services provided to recipients in their assigned areas and participates in planning the success of patient experience and outstanding customer service activities. The Director of Nursing promotes a learning environment that is open, respectful, and promotes the sharing of expertise to promote the benefits of health outcomes. The Director of Nursing develops both unit activities that support the elements of extending excellence. Is knowledge of and adheres to the Florida Hospital Corporate Compliance Plan, the ANA Code of Ethics, the ANA Scope and Standard for Nursing Practice, State Board of Nursing Practice Act, the AONE Nurse Executive Competencies, and the rules and regulations of all applicable local, state, and federal agencies and accrediting bodies. In addition, the Director of Nursing actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

Knowledge, Skills, Education, & Experience Required:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN) or Master of Science degree in Nursing (MSN) required at time of hire/promotion
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN) or Master of Science degree in Nursing (MSN) required as of January 1, 2016, if hired prior to October 14, 2012
  • Minimum two years progressive management experience
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN) or Master of Science degree in Nursing (MSN) highly preferred until December 31, 2015 (Preferred)
  • Master’s degree in related field (Preferred)
  • Minimum of five years experience in nursing with two years’ experience in leadership roles in a comparable health care entity (Preferred)
  • Experience in the clinical setting related to area(s) of specialty (Preferred)

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:

  • Current valid State of Florida or multi state license as a Registered Nurse
  • National certification in nursing specialty (Preferred)

  • CLINICAL NURSING KNOWLEDGE: Is able to articulate clinical knowledge related to the care of assigned patient areas. Monitors timely completion of performance evaluations, sets goals and provides feedback and counseling to employees. --Coordinates nursing care with other healthcare disciplines, and assists in integrating services across the continuum of health care. Rounds with intention on the nursing units, engaging staff and leading out in maintaining an environment of safety. --Assesses plans in order to address issues such as; ethnic, cultural, and diversity changes in the population; political and social influences; financial and economic issues; aging of society and demographic trends; ethical issues; and, environmental influences on health. --Nursing leadership resource for Nurse Managers and team to achieve nursing specific and hospital overall goals and accountabilities. Reviews data and engages with nursing leadership and other departments to meet five element dashboards and unit scorecards (hospital acquired conditions). Creates action plans to achieve positive outcomes. --Integrates Evidence Based Practice into daily operations and care of patients. --Accepts organizational accountability for service line outcomes; holds leadership and staff accountable for outcomes and work performed. --Hold self and others accountable for performance improvement outcomes.
  • OFF-SHIFT REPRESENTATIVE: Functions as the Nursing Administration/ Executive Offices representative on the off-shift by authorizing consent or treatment during the admission process and emergency in cases where a defined protocol exists. Serves as arbitrator for personnel grievances and problems referred by the charge RN/ANM/NM and provides documentation to the NM or appropriate person. Functions as initial on-site incident commander for internal/external disasters.
  • DEVELOP AND MENTOR/PROFESSIONALISM: Is able to identify, develop, and mentor others in order for them to meet their fullest potential at the organization. Maintains a high level of professionalism in order to be seen as a role model for the nursing staff. --Facilitates educational experiences for nursing and other students --Provides direct mentoring for all NM’s assigned to their area and any high potential ANM’s identified. Coaches others in developing personal career plans. --Participates in teaching opportunities throughout the organization. --Acts as a lead or sponsor in process improvement opportunities within the organization (beyond unit scope). --Chairs committees at the campus or system level and encourages staff involvement in hospital-based committees. --Promotes nursing management as a desirable specialty and assures there is a succession plan for his/her own position.   • KNOWLEDGE OF REGULATORY/PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS: Demonstrates an organizational knowledge of all regulatory and professional standards that effect the operations of their areas of responsibility. --Accountable for assuring compliance and provides evidence of performance with DNV and other regulatory requirements to operate nursing licensed beds. --Participates in nursing practice changes as a result of performance improvement activities, Nursing Sensitive Care (NSC) performance measures. Accurately documents and monitors activities from data received --Operationalizes and assures compliance with CMS, OSHA, CDC and Patient Safety regulations at the service line level --Adheres to applicable practice standards that relate to their area of specialty.
  • BUSINESS/HUMAN RESOURCES SKILLS: Demonstrates the ability to understand and apply financial and human resource concepts of the organization. --Analyzes financial statements. Manages financial resources to assure needed resources are available to care for the patient. Educates patient care team members on financial implications of patient care decisions. --Develops, implements, and monitors the budget for their defined area(s) of responsibility. --Participates in workforce planning and employment decisions, champions a diverse workforce, interprets and evaluates employee satisfaction/quality of work surveys taking action as needed to assure a positive outcome. --Utilizes hospital database management, decision support, and expert systems programs to access information and analyze data from disparate sources for use in planning for patient care processes and systems. --Measures and analyzes performance from the learning, growth, business process, customer, and financial perspective. --Identifies and eliminates sexual harassment, workplace violence, and verbal/physical abuse. Implements programs to enhance work-life balance. --Participates in the implementation of bioterrorism, biohazard, and disaster readiness plans.
