You Will Be Responsible For:

•         Prepares month end statistical analyses and reports to explain operational causes of financial results.

•         Provides financial planning support to department directors and managers.   Mentors management in understanding and using financial management tools to meet financial goals.

•         Supports and monitors productivity reporting system to inform hospital administration of biweekly performance of labor hours versus departmental level standard.

•         Coordinate month-end and year-end financial close review process including review of income statement and balance sheet account balances and accruals.   Analyze financial statements.

•         Prepare proformas and financial analyses for new projects and prepare service line profitability analyses.

•         Develop statistical, cost, reimbursement and operational studies and develop tools to assist operational departments in meeting targets.

•         Prepares and monitors monthly and annual forecasting tools to create meaningful financial projections.

•         Ensure facility results meet standards set by AHS including but not limited to accurate, timely reporting, financial proformas and projections, budget creation, regulatory reporting, facility compliance with AHS finance and internal control policies and AHS Compliance Plan by working directly with facility directors and centralized regional functions.

•         Support work of internal audit team, AHS reimbursement services, AHS Tax and Accounting department, and ACHA report preparation when needed.

•         Converts knowledge of complex hospital operational issues and initiatives into accurate financial models.  Mentors members of finance team to create proficiency in this area.

•         Create local structure to ensure management of local facility costs in accordance with budget as adjusted for volume.

•         Ensure availability of meaningful, accurate, timely information to be used by management for decision making.

•         Support Executive Director of Finance and CFO in creating structures to report and manage financial performance of the hospital.  Facilitate definition and collection of information as needed.

•         Provides reliable and correct guidance and policy interpretation to directors and executive team in absence of Executive Director of Finance and CFO.

•         Chair and facilitate interdepartmental meetings and provide management presentations to accomplish goals.

•         Chair and facilitate meetings and provide management presentations, when requested, in absence of Executive Director of Finance and CFO.

•         Create succession plans for department supervised and develop staff identified as potential leaders within the organization.

•         Participate in interdepartmental meetings as needed to assist in rational goal setting, ensure the accomplishment of goals and deadlines and ensure activities are consistent with the accomplishment of overall organizational goals.

•         Committee participation and other duties as assigned

Routinely and purposefully rounds on all areas of responsibility.

What You Will Need:

•         Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.

•         Three years of progressive work experience in hospital finance, accounting or related field with exposure to internal control functions, cost report preparation and auditing. 

•         Previous supervisory or project management experience necessary. 

•         Extensive experience with mainframe accounting and budgeting systems and PC based spreadsheets is required

•         Driver’s License required.

Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Executive Director of Finance, Hospital Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and indirect direction of the Regional CFO, serves as the hospital’s Director of Finance.  Responsible for overseeing preparation of accurate and timely operating budgets, capital budget and regulatory reporting.  Responsible to proactively create tools and reports to transform data into information to provide insight to executive team and operational management for controlling costs, managing change, improving performance and creating organizational value.  This includes, but is not limited to, daily, weekly and monthly expense monitoring tools, proformas, hindsight analyses of capital, supply and new-service expenditures and other reports for local and AHS management, finance committee, board of directors and other constituents as requested.  Responsible to develop and implement human systems to ensure management of expenses and capital in relationship to hospital revenues and budget. Must be proficient in communicating complex topics in a clear and concise manner that is easily understood by individuals without formal financial training.  Must demonstrate ability to transfer knowledge to others in a way that is useful in improving the financial and mission performance of the respective areas of responsibility and the hospital in total.
