AdventHealth Kissimmee seeks to hire a Director who will embrace our mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ.



Facility Profile:

AdventHealth Kissimmee is a 163 bed community-focused hospital, conveniently located near Walt Disney World. The team here is dedicated to bringing mission-focused, faith-based care to residents and visitors of Osceola and Orange Counties. At the heart of our latest expansion is a new, three-story tower featuring 80 expansive, private patient rooms and a host of modern amenities and technologies. Because we believe family support is an essential part of health and healing, we’ve included large, beautifully decorated family waiting areas with the comforts of home. Plus, each patient room includes ample space for visiting loved ones to relax, work and sleep.



Department Profile:

Our Emergency Department is located in one of the fastest-growing communities in Osceola County, close to Walt Disney World entertainment complex and local attractions. The unit consists of 35 monitored beds, two trauma rooms, dedicated pediatric rooms, and is a certified stroke center. We see over 60,000 patients each year, serving all age groups with the best in community-based acute, medical and surgical care. The department also utilizes LEAN principles in an effort to promote safe and efficient throughput.

Job Summary:

The Director of Emergency Nursing is a registered professional nurse with comprehensive responsibility for the assessment, problem identification, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and coordination of all processes which impact the quality and quantity of care delivered to the patients of specific age groups identified by the standards of care. The Director of Emergency Nursing assures evaluation of outcomes that promote safe, timely, and high quality practice delivery in assigned patient areas. The Director of Emergency Nursing provides leadership in the delivery of care and nursing practice both in the clinical unit and the organization. The Director of Emergency Nursing collaborates as needed with all levels of nursing staff, interdisciplinary teams, executive leaders, ED medical director and other stakeholders in relation to the delivery of quality care. The Director of Emergency Nursing acts as an advocate for the protections and rights of individuals, families, communities, populations, healthcare providers, nursing, other professions, institutions, and organizations, especially related to health and safety. The Director of Emergency Nursing accepts organizational accountability for services provided to recipients in their assigned areas and participates in planning the success of patient experience and outstanding customer service activities. Utilizes knowledge of current trends and practices in the nursing profession and brings change and process improvement as a result. The Director of Emergency Nursing promotes a learning environment that is open, respectful, and promotes the sharing of expertise to promote the benefits of health outcomes. Is knowledge of and adheres to the AdventHealth Corporate Compliance Plan, the ANA Code of Ethics, the ANA/ENA Scope and Standard for Nursing Practice, State Board of Nursing Practice Act, the AONE Nurse Executive Competencies, and the rules and regulations of all applicable local, state, and federal agencies and accrediting bodies. In addition, the Director of Emergency Nursing actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.



Knowledge, Skills, Education, & Experience Required:

  • Demonstrates a broad clinical nursing knowledge

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN) or Master of Science degree in Nursing (MSN)
  • Master of Science degree in Nursing (MSN) or Master’s degree in health related field highly preferred (Preferred)
  • Two years progressive management experience Five years nursing experience
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in emergency nursing with two years’ experience in leadership roles in a comparable health care entity (preferred)



Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:

  • Current valid State of Florida or multi state license as a Registered Nurse
  • National certification in nursing specialty CEN, TNCC, ENPC, AORN, ENA membership(Preferred)

  • Nursing leadership resource for Nurse Managers and team to achieve nursing specific and hospital overall goals and accountabilities. Reviews data and engages with nursing leadership and other departments to assure clinical best practice, outcomes and metrics that are established for the emergency department. Creates action plans to achieve positive outcomes.

  • Collaboratively demonstrates leadership skills through timely, appropriate decisions and organizational ability with appropriate priority setting.
  • Collaborates effectively with the ACS Market Director of Emergency Services to enhance patient care and outcomes.
  • Provides collaborative leadership in providing consistent safety and service standards for the Patient Experience Model.
  • Promotes system thinking as a value in the nursing organization. Considers the impact of service line nursing decisions on the healthcare organization.
  • Builds loyalty and commitment throughout their service area. Can merge divergent ideas and viewpoints for the good of the service line.
  • Coordinates nursing care with other healthcare disciplines and assists in integrating services across the continuum of health care. Rounds with intention on the units, engaging staff and leading out in maintaining an environment of safety.
  • Participates in nursing and organizational policy formulation and decision-making utilizing clinical expertise as a guideline. Assures organizational clinical policies and procedures are reviewed and updated in accordance with evidence-based practice.
  • Assesses and evaluates the quality and appropriateness of health care delivered to assigned patient population.
  • Practices shared-decision making to build collaborative relationships.
  • Facilitates work through groups using committees and/or small groups.
  • Maintains current knowledge of patient care delivery systems and innovations; can articulate various delivery systems and patient care models and the advantages/disadvantages of each. Determines when new delivery models are appropriate, envisions them, and implements as needed.
  • Integrates high ethical standards and core values into everyday work activities and creates a work environment that has a reputation for high ethical standards.
  • Chairs committees at the campus or system level and encourages staff involvement in hospital-based committees.

  • COMPLIANCE/REGULATORY RESPONSIBILITY:
  • Accountable for assuring compliance and provides evidence of performance with DNV and other regulatory requirements.
  • Operationalizes and assures compliance with CMS, OSHA, ACHA, CDC and Patient Safety regulations at the service line level i.e. EMTALA
  • Adheres to applicable practice standards that relate to their area of specialty. OPERATING & CAPITAL BUDGET/FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY:
  • Analyzes financial statements. Manages financial resources to assure needed resources are available to care for the patient. Educates patient care team members on financial implications of patient care decisions.
  • Develops, implements, and monitors the budget for their defined area(s) of responsibility. STRATEGIC PLANNING RESPONSIBILITY:
  • Utilizes hospital database management, decision support, and expert systems programs to access information and analyze data from disparate sources for use in planning for patient care processes and systems.
  • Measures and analyzes performance from the learning, growth, business process, customer, and financial perspective.
  • Participates in the implementation of bioterrorism, biohazard, and disaster readiness plans.
  • Assesses plans to address issues such as; ethnic, cultural, and diversity changes in the population; political and social influences; financial and economic issues; aging of society and demographic trends; ethical issues; and, environmental influences on health.
  • PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT RESPONSIBILITY:
  • Acts as a change agent, utilizing change theory to plan for the implementation of organizational change, supports staff during the change, and adapts leadership style to the situations of the change.
  • Analyses patient, physician, and employee satisfaction survey information and assists with the development of unit action plans.
  • Acts as a lead or sponsor in process improvement opportunities within the organization (beyond unit scope).
  • Participates in nursing practice changes because of performance improvement activities, Nursing Sensitive Care (NSC) performance measures. Accurately documents and monitors activities from data received
  • COMMUNITY RELATIONS RESPONSIBILITY:
  • Is involved in community relationships that affect service line concepts i.e. community EMS, Behavioral Health, Law enforcement and is an advocate for positive relationships.
  • Participates in at least one professional organization and encourages others to participate in professional organizations. Responsible for planning and implementation of programs that advance the profession of nursing.
  • STAFFING/LABOR/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
  • Participates in workforce planning and employment decisions, champions a diverse workforce, interprets and evaluates employee satisfaction/quality of work surveys acting as needed to assure a positive outcome.
  • Assumes oversight for overall staffing of assigned areas. Assures overall staffing is effective, efficient, and promotes the delivery of quality care. Assures that staff is representative of the population diversity though oversight of recruitment, selection, and retention of personnel.
  • Assures there is appropriate orientation for new staff and appropriate methodologies for ongoing competency assessment of seasoned staff. Monitors timely completion of performance evaluations, sets goals and provides feedback and counseling to employees.
  • Conducts service line meetings, attend unit meetings as requested and supports activities that foster staff communication.
  • Accomplishes objectives through persuasion, celebrates successes and accomplishments, and communicate a shared vision for the organization.
  • Identifies and eliminates sexual harassment, workplace violence, and verbal/physical abuse. Implements programs to enhance work-life balance.
  • Facilitates educational experiences for nursing and other students.
  • Provides direct mentoring for the NM’s assigned to their area and any high potential ANM’s identified. Coaches others in developing personal career plans.
  • Promotes nursing management as a desirable specialty and assures there is a succession plan for his/her own position. Actively mentors’ others into the leadership role.
