Director – Medical Transport Team - Maitland

AdventHealth Maitland seeks to hire a Director – Medical Transport Team who will embrace our mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ.

Established in 1908, AdventHealth is one of the largest not-for-profit healthcare systems in the country, caring for more than a million patients each year. Job Summary:

The Director is directly responsible for smooth and efficient operations and business development of AdventHealth Medical Transport Services and execution and performance of processes and logistics related to patient transport and patient placement. Leads and directs a systematic approach to facilitate effective patient placement and efficient process supporting admission and transport from AH hospitals and other facilities transferring patients for quaternary care. Provides strategic direction for AdventHealth Medical Transport Services. Responsible to design a highly reliable environment which is responsive to system goals and effective patient-centered care. Monitors and analyzes data for clinical and operational process’ for quality and improvement. Assure continuity of service through communication channels and collaboration within clinical departments and with providers. Adheres to all rules & regulations of all applicable local, state, and federal agencies and accrediting bodies. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.



Knowledge, Skills, Education, & Experience Required:

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills. Able to effectively express ideas and views through public speaking, presentations, reports, and professional correspondence.
  • Exceptional people management, leadership skills, and the capacity to relate to people in a manner that wins confidence and establishes support.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective productive teams
  • Strong business acumen, intelligence, and capacity.
  • Approaches his/her work as an interconnected system. Ability to understand major objectives and break them down into meaningful action steps.
  • Coordinates systems to improve process surrounding of patient flow—Bed Management system, Cerner, EMS Dispatch, PACS
  • Works effectively with hospital administration, staff, clinicians and physicians and the capacity to relate to people in a manner that wins confidence and establishes support.
  • Strong computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Excel, Power point, and dashboard management software (i.e. HRIS system, First Look) (Preferred)
  • Strong background in Process Engineering (i.e. Lean Six Sigma) (Preferred)
  • Bachelor's degree, particularly in a healthcare business, clinical science, or Industrial/Systems Engineering
  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Health Services Administration, Industrial/Systems Engineering, or Nursing Administration (Preferred)



Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:

  • Six Sigma Lean Greenbelt certification(Preferred)
  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) (Preferred)
  • Current valid State of Florida license as a registered nurse. (Preferred)



Job Responsibilities:

  • SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:
  • Leads and directs a systematic approach to facilitate effective patient placement and efficient process supporting admission and transport from AH hospitals and other facilities transferring patients for quaternary care.
  • Initiate, promote and/or participate in interdisciplinary collaboration regarding operations, logistics, and patient care.
  • Promote a collaborative environment where multiple service lines create common solutions to optimize complex systems
  • Build relationships with functional leaders to drive quality, culture and financial value as one integrated care network.
  • Establish standardized processes where they do not exist, keeping the goal of optimization at the forefront
  • COMPLIANCE/REGULATORY RESPONSIBILITY:
  • Accountable to the Florida Department of Health, local city and county government for regulatory requirements.
  • Maintains open communication with Risk Management for insurance coverage of the vehicles, aircraft, helipads and insurance coverage of other air programs (FAA guidelines)
  • Accountable to Risk Management and Regulatory with EMTALA concerns.
  • OPERATING & CAPITAL BUDGET/FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY:
  • Apply cost containment principles while endeavoring to create new or improved processes and operational practices
  • Maintains accountability for fiscal and operational management of areas of responsibility
  • STRATEGIC PLANNING RESPONSIBILITY:
  • Evaluate strategic initiatives, business informatics, and operational process information when identifying projects that have the most value to the organization
  • Collaborates, develops and implements strategic plans for future success of the operational programs.
  • Provides strategic direction for AdventHealth Medical Transport Services and patient placement.
  • PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT RESPONSIBILITY:
  • Break down complex problems and propose/execute effective solutions that ensure smooth and efficient operations, logistics, and high quality
  • Establish standardized processes where they do not exist, keeping the goal of optimization at the forefront
  • Evaluate current Key Performance Indicators for appropriateness and develop new or improved metrics as needed to drive meaningful improvements and sustain new levels of performance
  • Identify key metrics and trend reports required to manage real time response and process improvement opportunities
  • STAFFING/LABOR/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
  • Plans, directs, coordinates and evaluates the overall practices and administrative activities, including fiscal material and human resources development and management. Assures adherence to department standards of care procedures and practices
