Dietetic Internship Program Manager – Nutritional Services – Orlando

AdventHealth Orlando seeks to hire a Dietetic Internship Program Manager who will embrace our mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ.

Facility Profile:

Located on a lush tropical campus, our flagship hospital, 1,368-bed AdventHealth Orlando, serves as the major tertiary facility for much of the Southeast, the Caribbean and South America. AdventHealth Orlando houses one of the largest Emergency Departments and largest cardiac catheterization labs in the country. We are already one of the busiest hospitals in the nation, providing service excellence to more than 32,000 inpatients and 125,000 outpatients each year.

Work Hours/Shifts:

Monday – Friday; 8:00am – 5:00pm

Job Summary:

The Manager of the Dietetic Internship Program directs, coordinates, and supports the activities of the internship program in accordance with the Accreditation Council on the Education of Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). Develops program policies and procedures, oversees recruitment, and provides didactic sessions. Verifies intern completion of supervised practice for the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). Facilitates process improvement for program activities. Some local travel is required. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

  • Possesses current working knowledge of clinical nutrition standards
  • Possesses knowledge and understanding of the ACEND standards of education and a broad knowledge of clinical and administrative dietetics
  • Committed to pursuing and directing evidence-based practice and high-quality standards.
  • Bi-Lingual (English/Spanish) (Preferred)
  • Master’s degree in Food & Nutrition, Dietetics, Public Health, Nutritional Sciences, Human Nutrition, or related field
  • Completion of an Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) approved dietetic internship
  • Five (5) years’ experience in a healthcare setting to include two (2) years’ experience in management
  • Three (3) years of food safety and sanitation-related experience
  • Active participation experience with the survey processes of DNV, AHCA, or other accreditation agencies
  • Two years teaching experience / instructional development in a planned educational program.
  • Doctoral degree in Food & Nutrition, Dietetics, Public Health, Nutritional Sciences, Human Nutrition, or related field. (Preferred)

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:

  • Current, active Registered Dietitian (RD) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
  • Current, active and clear Florida Department of Health dietitian/nutritionist license.
  • Certified ServSafe Food Protection Manager (Preferred)
  • Certified ServSafe Instructor (Preferred)
  • Registered ServSafe Examination Proctor. (Preferred)

Job Responsibilities:

Demonstrates through behavior AdventHealth’s Core Values of Keep Me Safe, Love Me, Make it Easy, and Own it as outlined in the organization’s Performance Excellence Program.

  • Advises, evaluates, and counsels dietetic interns
  • Maintains program accreditation through timely submission of fees, reports, and requests for major program changes
  • Maintains internship records, including verification statements which must be kept indefinitely
  • Processes intern documents with CDR for eligibility to sit for RD exam
  • Provides Dietetic Internship (DI) verification statements upon successful completion of the program
  • Maintains and updates dietetic internship website and brochures needed
  • Serves as continuing education liaison for the CDR for the clinical staff and dietetic interns
  • Ensures fair, equitable, and considerate treatment of prospective and enrolled interns through program admission, retention, and completion policies
  • Maintains relationships with DICAS and D&D Digital for receiving and selecting applicants
  • Evaluates all application packets for recruitment of interns
  • Communicates with prospective interns
  • Serves as the spokesperson for the dietetic internship Program Planning and Management
  • Develops policies and procedures for effectively managing all components of the internship program
  • Maintains records of complaints about program received from interns or others, including disposition of the complaints
  • Reviews and analyzes dietetic intern performance evaluations and takes appropriate action when minimum standards are not met
  • Conducts on-going review of program curriculum to meet accreditation standards
  • Communicates and coordinates with program preceptors and others involved with the program regarding program standards, quality, and accreditation
  • Provides regulatory compliance survey guidelines for Det Norske Veritas (DNV) and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CDM) to enhance interns understanding of the healthcare environment
  • Conducts preceptor workshop at least annually
  • Schedules Advisory Committee and Task Force meetings as needed
  • Collaborates with Administration and NS Leaders to provide educational experiences for the dietetic internship
  • Provides a continuous quality assessment and process improvement plan for curriculum development, assessment, evaluation, and implementation
  • Visits sites; solicits preceptor feedback and student evaluations
  • Facilitates processes for continuous assessment of program and students learning outcomes according to ACEND standards
  • Participates in organizational meetings and on-going performance improvement activities
  • Responsible for the operating and capital budget and management of resources for the dietetic internship program, including revenue, labor, supplies, equipment, and other expenses
  • Ensures preceptors are adequately prepared and staffed to meet the supervisory needs of dietetic interns
  • Practices effective time management and prioritization of tasks Professional Development
  • Maintains professional currency in areas relevant to coordinating dietetic internship programs
  • Maintains dietetic registration and continuing education requirements
  • Develops and implements Professional Development Portfolio for the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics (AND).
