Dialysis Care Technician – Dialysis – Orlando

Orlando seeks to hire Dialysis Care Technician who will embrace our mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ.

Department Profile:

Renal Dialysis Unit. The 15-bed critical care unit that specializes in performing the following renal treatments: Hemodialysis. Peritoneal Dialysis, Apheresis, RBC and WBC Exchange and CRRT. We provide services to both inpatients and outpatients..

Job Summary:

The Renal Dialysis Care Technician is responsible for assisting and supporting the unit management team to achieve quality patient care in the home/SNF setting and promote patient satisfaction. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.



Knowledge, Skills, Education, & Experience Required:

  • Minimum 2 years Dialysis experience (acute or chronic setting)
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing with diverse populations.
  • Interpersonal skills that promote teamwork.
  • Flexibility in prioritization.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Knowledge of and ability to utilize in house and external resources.
  • Computer knowledge and skills (Preferred)
  • Successful completion of training course in theory and practice of Hemodialysis (Preferred)


Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:

  • Hemodialysis Technician Certification (BONENT)
  • CPR certification
  • Florida Certified Nurse Assistant (Preferred)


Job Responsibilities:

Demonstrates through behavior Florida Hospital’s Core Values of Integrity, Compassion, Balance, Excellence, Stewardship and Teamwork as outlined in the organization’s Performance Excellence Program

  • Adheres to established Policies and Procedures for the hospital as well as the Home Dialysis Services (Home Training Unit) Standards.
  • Performs hemodialysis care and patient’s treatment, appropriately utilizing dialysis equipment and water system. Maintains water quality in accordance to AAMI standards for Dialysis Units. Follows OSHA/FH infection control policy for the handling of blood and body substances. Maintains and reviews daily log on water delivery system. May be required to drop off specimens at a nearby shipping company.
  • Sets up dialysis machines per procedure and prepares dialysate according to formula. Reports all equipment, supply problems, new or unusual incidents to RN, CC, Bio-med or repair personnel. Establishes priorities of care both emergent and non-emergent and documents all pertinent information under the direction of an RN.
  • Explains procedure and operation of dialysis machine to new patients and answers any questions. Actively participates in the training and education of Home Dialysis patients. Obtains and records pre-dialysis assessments; connects patients to dialysis machines, begins procedures and monitors patient for any adverse reactions.
  • Develops and assimilates theoretical and technical knowledge with observations and communication skills to detect dialysis and non-dialysis related problems. Seeks resources when necessary.
  • Provides safe and effective delivery of age-specific patient care and hazard-free environment in compliance with standards outlined in the Home Hemodialysis Policy and Procedure as well as regulations set forth by the state and federal agencies.
  • Orders supplies; maintains supply inventory and records in an efficient and cost-effective manner. Picks up and delivers supplies, blood samples, records and reports as directed by the staff RN or Clinical Coordinator.
  • Maintains proper attendance and punctuality to facilitate smooth and efficient operation of the unit/department. Actively participates in unit staff meetings and in-services. Performs additional duties and is responsible for specific projects assigned by the Clinical Coordinator.
