Job Summary:

The Data Engineer II is an integral member of the team responsible for design, development, maintenance and support of data mart and ETL infrastructures. This position drives the implementation of repeatable standards and processes for ETL development and develops ETL mappings and workflows utilizing SQL Server/SSIS, Alteryx, Informatica, and other up and coming ETL technologies. They are expected to collaborate in good faith with peers, vendors and technical, and operations staff to ensure the successful implementation of ETL solutions for Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence tools. This position is also responsible for providing general ETL direction for Data Warehouse Development Teams as well as support for the Admin and DBA teams that maintain our ETL tool and Database infrastructure. Demonstrates diplomacy and superior communication when engaging with clinical, operational, and finance leaders to understand critical problems. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.



Knowledge, Skills, Education, & Experience Required:

  • Advanced knowledge of ETL specific Concepts, Techniques, Best Practices and design principles
  • Experience with best practices for ETL design and development such as data profiling, data cleansing, change data capture, and performance optimization
  • Advanced knowledge of Data Warehousing Concepts, Techniques and Best Practices
  • In depth knowledge of physical database design and development including performance tuning in an Oracle Environment
  • Experience using databases in a business environment with large-scale, complex datasets
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of business intelligence technologies
  • High level of analytical skills and creativity to translate business requirements and decompose data flows / relationships into detailed design solutions
  • Ability to evaluate and implement solutions balancing reuse, extensibility, reliability and performance
  • Ability to come to work eager to solve problems and learn new skill sets
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to clearly articulate solution alternatives.
  • Familiarity with the systems development life cycle (SDLC) standards
  • Ability to demonstrate mentorship and provide guidance to peers.

  • Knowledge and experience in healthcare environment (Preferred)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related field AND 5 years’ experience OR
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related field AND 3 years’ experience
  • Experience in healthcare, database administration, web design (UX, UI) (Preferred)



Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:

  • Certified Scrum Master, Certified Scrum Developer (Preferred)



Job Responsibilities:

  • Guides teammates on best practices related to ETL solutions that will achieve department/unit goals in accordance with Company policies and practices.
  • Manages ETL tool lifecycle through direct intervention and coordination of resources around new tool implementations, tool upgrades and tool de-commissioning.
  • Provides thought leadership within multiple technology areas to complete root-cause analysis, design solutions, write code, perform testing, provide documentation, and implement multiple large-scale development projects.
  • Works interdependently with corporate technical infrastructure teams and application teams to ensure service delivery is meeting business objectives.
  • Develops solutions that utilize the highest standards of analytical rigor and data integrity and adheres to AdventHealth’s data governance standards.
  • Recognizes and adopts best practices in ETL development, code Migration, Data Security, data integrity, test design, analysis, validation, and documentation.
  • Manages and monitors ETL workflow and scheduling solutions design.
  • Documents and diagrams existing ETL and Workflow solutions as well as new solution proposals.
  • Articulates ETL and Workflow design proposals to both technical and non-technical groups and individuals.
  • Vendor management related to ETL, Workflow, Scheduling and Database Tools
  • Leads Business Intelligence projects on behalf of Business Analytics & Data Science department.
  • Accepts and benefits from direction and constructive feedback. Prioritizes multiple projects, meets project deadlines, and manages multiple customer relationships.
  • Employs critical thinking and creative problem solving to address barriers. Escalates issues to leadership, when appropriate.
