Cook - Apopka - Part Time 

Apopka seeks to hire a Production Cook who will embrace our mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ.

Facility Profile:

AdventHealth Apopka is a seven-story, 120-bed hospital offering an extensive range of services including expanded surgical services, advanced surgical suites and a catheterization lab. The hospital also features a 30,000-square-foot emergency department with pediatric-friendly beds, imaging services, a full-service cafeteria, chapel, gift shop and on-site fire station. The hospital opened in December 2017, replacing the 50-bed hospital that AdventHealth had operated in downtown Apopka for more than four decades.

Department Profile:

The Nutritional Services Department has about 460 employees at 7 campuses. Every campus has a Patient Service Area, Retail Area, and a clinical staff. The center of the PSA is the patient tray line team. This team functions with an assembly line that makes about 3,300 patient meal trays a day (all campuses) PSA is also responsible for preparing and serving the food to the patients, retrieving soiled trays, helping patients make their menu selections, inputting their selections into the computer, maintaining correct inventory levels of nourishment's on the nursing units, solving customer complaints, and delivering Room Service whenever patients need a meal or a snack throughout the day. The Clinical staff is comprised of Registered Dietitians. They work with the doctors and nurses to facilitate the healing of our patients through nutritional assessment and intervention. Clinical staff members calculate patient's dietary needs, make menu recommendations and teach patients the benefits of how to eat the foods that are best for them. They see about 300 patients a day for dietary assessment, tube feeding management, nutrition instruction and education and other follow ups. The clinical staff also does a great deal of outpatient education and individualized nutritional counseling. Participating in community and corporate events such as health fairs and FH's internal education program called Lunch n Learn, are also clinical responsibilities. The Retail Service areas are made up of many exciting components. We employ chefs, cooks, cashiers and a variety of foodservice employees in order to ensure tasty, fresh food that is prepared with expertise and care.

Work Hours/Shifts:

Generally working 8 hour shifts between the hours of 5 am - 9 pm. Must be able to work weekends. 

Job Summary:

Actively participates in an outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. Under the direction of the Managing chef, responsible for preparation of all foods and related items for cafeteria and\\or catering customers and\\ or food for patients. Ensures that all food production is produced according to recipe specifications and proper procedures. Ensures that all products meet standards for quality, taste, appearance and freshness. Records product temperatures and monitors holding times as appropriate. Meets all production deadlines. Demonstrates cost conscious behaviors in all aspects. Adheres to all sanitation, safety, cleanliness and food storage standards. Assists with serving customers and provides world-class customer service.

Knowledge, Skills, Education, & Experience Required:

  • Ability to read, write and speak English well to effectively communicate and interact with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to follow, read and write recipes as needed .
  • Bilingual in Spanish (Preferred)
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Preferred)
  • Food Service line cook or lead cook experience (Preferred)
  • High School diploma or equivalent (Preferred)
  • ServSafe or equivalent (Preferred)

  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure a smooth operation of the department.
