Clinical Scientist I – Cellular Therapy Lab – Orlando

AdventHealth Orlando seeks to hire a Clinical Scientist I who will embrace our mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ.



Facility Profile:

Located on a lush tropical campus, our flagship hospital, 1,368-bed AdventHealth Orlando, serves as the major tertiary facility for much of the Southeast, the Caribbean and South America. AdventHealth Orlando houses one of the largest Emergency Departments and largest cardiac catheterization labs in the country. We are already one of the busiest hospitals in the nation, providing service excellence to more than 32,000 inpatients and 125,000 outpatients each year.



Work Hours/Shifts:

Monday – Friday; 10:00am - 6:30pm



Job Summary:

The Clinical Scientist I will be required to perform high complexity testing on a continuous cycle on a daily basis, accurately and promptly within a dynamic, rapidly changing environment. He/she will undergo rigorous bench and theoretical training for and be expected to keep pace with advances in this specialist area. Once fully trained, he/she will be required to work independently with little to no supervision at weekends and holidays. He/she will actively participate in biomedical research projects with rapidly changing technical requirements, priorities, and deadlines. He/she must be able to accurately document research data in a clear and concise manner for use in final technical reports for subsequent publications and scientific presentations. He/she must be able to maintain composure under pressure, be flexible to accommodate rapidly changing priorities. In this way, the position holder will actively contribute to providing outstanding customer service, accept responsibility for maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all, and will clearly demonstrate accountability for his/her own actions and decisions. Knowledge, Skills, Education, & Experience Required:

  • Technically competent
  • A professional attitude and conduct, the ability to communicate at different levels of education, including the ability to converse clearly and concisely one-on-one with physicians, and maintain composure under pressure
  • Competent Microsoft Office computer skills
  • Ability to comfortably work independently and troubleshoot technical issues (preferred)
  • Experience in the specific, high complexity clinical specialty (preferred)
  • Bachelor’s degree in medical technology; clinical laboratory; chemical, physical or biological science (preferred)



Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:

  • State of Florida Medical Technologist Licensure in the required specialty: If in Cellular Therapy (2990) – Any one of the following Hematology, Immunology, Molecular Pathology, Serology, Microbiology or Clinical Chemistry
  • If in Thrombosis Research (5580)- Hematology, Immunology and Molecular Pathology (ALL Required)



Job Responsibilities:

  • He/she will adhere to all issues related to compliance by adhering to all AdventHealth, State of Florida and federal clinical laboratory rules, regulations and guidelines.
  • He/she will receive clinical and research samples, evaluate specimen integrity, labeling and test requests for appropriateness, utilizing SOPs specific for the type of processing.
  • He/she will have demonstrable competence in the operation of all relevant clinical laboratory instrumentation. The position holder will be able to perform all necessary start up and calibration procedures, and undertake preventive and basic corrective maintenance of instrumentation. He/she will notify senior staff of any problems requiring further review or corrective action in a timely manner.
  • He/she will perform and accurately report all technical procedures on clinical and research samples, using multiple highly complex methodologies, including all necessary quality control, according to all relevant policies, regulations and cost containment guidelines.
  • He/she will actively provide technical support for departmental research activities relevant to their specific clinical testing area on an as-needed basis, while helping to maintain an efficient clinical laboratory service. The Clinical Scientist will report all findings and issues arising from their support of research activities, to the Senior and Chief Clinical Scientists, other departmental researchers and Laboratory Director, as necessary.
  • He/she will actively participate in their own personal and professional development in the relevant specialty area by taking full advantage of departmental seminars, educational and research opportunities. The Clinical Scientist will actively and independently study in an endeavor to develop their theoretical knowledge of the relevant specialty area, and will demonstrate this through participation in Departmental Meetings and Journal Clubs, and their interactions with other laboratory and hospital staff.
  • The Clinical Scientist will assist the Senior and Chief Clinical Scientists by taking on special responsibilities and research projects as delegated, as part of a departmental effort to continually improve clinical and research testing services. In doing so, he/she will conform to all relevant budgetary constraints, and will report to the Senior and Chief Clinical Scientists, as appropriate, on progress and results.
  • He/she will contribute to providing the highest levels of customer service, by actively participating in inter-department communications relevant to both clinical and research aspects of the clinical laboratory. Such communication will include, but will not be limited to, departmental clinical and research staff, nursing, pathology, pharmacy, physicians and staff from various non-clinical areas, and will be focused towards achieving outstanding customer service. He/she will accept the inherent responsibility that relationships created during communications with others will be equally respectful to all.
  • He/she will perform other duties as assigned or directed to ensure the smooth operation of the department or unit.
