ICU Clinical Nurse Educator – Nursing Education – Winter Park

Work Hours/Shifts:

Monday – Friday; 8am – 5pm (Varies) 

Job Summary:

The Education Specialist actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. The Education Specialist is responsible for facilitating the development of clinical excellence in assigned areas through active participation in orientation, training, on-going staff development and evaluation of clinical practice for all levels of personnel served. The Education Specialist participates in the development of formal and informal education programs and activities in an effort to improve standards and performance expectations. Additionally, the Education Specialist is responsible for the coordination of all phases of orientation for new nursing employees, and for planning, implementing and evaluating in-service and continuing education programs on an on-going basis which are designed to meet educational needs. The Education Specialist is cognizant of trends in nursing practice and care delivery and facilitates the process for learners to assume responsibility for maintaining competence in practice.

Knowledge, Skills, Education, & Experience Required:

  • Previous teaching experience in formal/informal settings
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Power Point and Excel
  • Effective communicator, strong interpersonal skills.
  • Self directed, creative, shows initiative to develop educational programs.
  • Demonstrates leadership ability.
  • BS in Nursing, or related field effective December 1, 2009. Current SCI staff hired prior to December 1, 2009 must obtain by 2013.
  • 3-5 years experience in the area of specialty applying for.
  • BLS/ACLS Instructor (depending on specialty) within first year.
  • MSN or Masters degree in related field (Preferred)

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:

  • Current RN registration with the Florida State Board of Nursing
  • Certification in specialty; Certification as Nursing Professional Development Educator (Preferred)

  • Responsible for orientation, educational programming and professional development of staff. Individualizes, plans, implements and evaluates new employees unit orientation
  • Plans, implements and evaluates educational programs in response to health care trends, staff learning needs and organizational goals.
  • Utilizes principles of education and adult learning to provide opportunities and experiences for professional growth consistent with the Novice to Expert continuum. Utilizes the process of systematic inquiry to develop educational activities
  • Contributes educational expertise to facilitate and enhance achievement of individual, departmental, and organizational goals
  • Demonstrates knowledge of leadership principles and management skills. Communicates effectively. Maintains knowledge of national and local trends in nursing practice.
  • Promotes continuous improvement. Collaborates to implement change
  • Integrates published research and current literature to develop and implement learning activities. Contributes to the research process and participates in hospital based research. Provides learning opportunities which enable nurses to utilize research findings in practice.
  • Participates in education-focused systematic inquiry on topics such as health care outcomes, issues, concepts, theories and the learning process.
  • If in a clinical setting or have patient contact, include reference to the age of patients served and how the job functions are performed in relation to the customer/patient’s age/needs
