Work Hours/Shift:


You Will Be Responsible For:

  • Understands the policies and procedures as related to the clinical area

  • Responsible for providing pastoral care support to patients, families, and staff by determining

    and meeting their spiritual concerns and needs

  • Staff Chaplain provides decedent care and this includes assisting and comforting the patient their families and staff

    in dealing with issues relevant to death, and dying

  • Staff Chaplain shares information on coping skills for meeting stressful situations, while providing emotional and spiritual support

  • Support Human Resources with monthly new employee orientation when assign.

  • Maintains cooperative working relationships with local clergy, funeral directors, Justice of the Peace

  • Respond to all Codes and other emergencies as needed

  • Maintaining accurate patient information in the electronic medical record system.

  • Keeps current with professional standards and care by periodically attending seminars and continuing education classes for

    Professional growth and is current with professional journals

  • Has knowledge of and understands current JCAHO standards for the clinical aspect of the department



What You Will Need:

  • Clinical experience in counseling, pastoral care services, program development, etc.  Two years’ ministerial experience with experience in organizational leadership, group management, pastoral counseling, preaching, program development, pastoral services, etc.

  • Flexibility in scheduling of hours.  May be required to work overtime, weekends and holidays. 

  • Ability to read, write and follow instructions in English. Good oral communication skills. Excellent customer service skills.  Excellent organization and people skills.  Maintains continuing education hours as outlined by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, Inc. (ACPE) Computer skills with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, Internet, Cerner and current hospital patient care computer programs, preferred. This position is primarily light in nature.  The maximum amount of lifting is 20% of body weight.  The position requires walking, standing and sitting.  Must meet the hospital's established health requirements.

  • High School diploma or GED, Four-year collage, M.Div. degree or equivalent education in an accredited Theological or Divinity School. One-year director experience as a hospital chaplain, 400 hours of supervised clinical experience per unit of Clinical Pastoral Education preferred and a minimum of 2 Units of CPE.

  • An M.Div. degree or equivalent education in an accredited Theological or Divinity School (M. Div. is a three year, 96 semester hour course of study).  Membership in appropriate organizations fostering standards of proficiency preferred, (e.g. Association of Professional Chaplains, Association of Clinical Pastoral Educators, etc.).  Certification in appropriate organizations fostering standards of professional competency preferred.  Minimum of four units (400 hours of supervised clinical experience per unit) of Clinical Pastoral Education preferred and a minimum of 2 Units of CPE.


Job Summary:

The PT Staff Chaplain provides pastoral ministry to patients, family and staff by determining and meeting their spiritual, physical, and emotional concerns and perceived needs.  The PT Staff Chaplain also assist in oversees all volunteer chaplains, Spiritual Ambassadors, and the spiritual atmosphere of the hospital as well as policies and procedures related to his department.
