Catheterization Laboratory Technician

JOB SUMMARY

The Cardiac Catheterization Lab Technician’s responsible for all aspects of care related to patients undergoing procedures in the Cardiac-Vascular Laboratory including heart catheterization, peripheral diagnostic and interventional procedures, peripheral stent placement, device implant procedures and other heart and/or peripheral related procedures.  Performs pre-admission, recovery, and follow-up for patients undergoing invasive and non-invasive procedures.  Collaborates with physicians, nurses, and other clinical disciplines to assist in the delivery of patient care from admission through discharge.

PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS

Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time; Able to walk, climb, turn, twist, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, lift at least 25 lbs, carry, finger hold, talk, see with a good field of vision, and hear; Communicate on the telephone and directly with patients; read paperwork, printouts and computer screens; Requires manual dexterity sufficient to maintain files, operate a keyboard, calculator, telephone, copier and other small desk equipment and computer.  Must be able to lift 25 lbs and possess the physical stamina and agility required to operate equipment and to effectively assist patients.

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of computerized hemodynamic monitoring and EKG interpretation.
  • Basic knowledge of medication administration.
  • Clinical experience in a Cardiac Cath Lab/Special Procedures Lab is preferred.
  • Clinical experience with post-procedure patient monitoring, hemostasis and recognition of potential complications is preferred.
  • Demonstrates ability to communicate by reading, writing legibly, speaking and comprehending English effectively in order to carry out job requirements.
  • Must pass a Pre-Employment Drug Screening, Criminal History Check, and Professional Reference Check

CERTIFICATE/LICENSE

  • Graduate of an accredited cardiovascular program (CVT/CPT/RCIS), radiology program RT(R), respiratory therapy (RRT), paramedic, or RN/LPN is required.
  • Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) is preferred.
  • ACLS certification is required.
