Art Therapist – Mission and Ministry – Orlando

Orlando seeks to hire an Art Therapist who will embrace our mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ.



Facility Profile:

Located on a lush tropical campus, our flagship hospital, 1,107-bed Orlando, serves as the major tertiary facility for much of the Southeast, the Caribbean and South America. Orlando houses one of the largest Emergency Departments and largest cardiac catheterization labs in the country. We are already one of the busiest hospitals in the nation, providing service excellence to more than 32,000 inpatients and 125,000 outpatients each year.



Work Hours/Shifts:

Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm



Job Summary:

The Art Therapist – Mission and Ministry organizes and implements an art therapy program that addresses the physical, spiritual, socio-emotional, physical and neurological/cognitive needs of patients and provides appropriate interventions to meet such needs. This position adheres to the Corporate Compliance Plan, all rules and regulations of applicable local, state, and federal agencies and accrediting bodies. The Art Therapist abides by all aspects of the department according to the philosophy, policies, procedures, and objectives of the hospital and units of responsibility. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.



Knowledge, Skills, Education, & Experience Required:

  • Ability to effectively relate to work and communicate with persons of diverse religious and/or cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to foster a sense of mission that enhances a culture of trust, experience of belonging and a future of hope within the hospital and healthcare team.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate professionally in English; good grammatical skills.
  • Proficiency in completing tasks using Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work independently, follow-through with projects and works well under pressure.
  • Skills and knowledge to perform clinical/therapeutic assessments and supervision for groups and/or individuals.
  • Proficiency in visual art (drawing, painting, sculpture, and other art forms)
  • Ability to develop and facilitate art therapy research.
  • Ability to apply the art therapy process towards a variety of populations in the medical setting in pediatrics and adults.
  • Master’s degree in Art Therapy
  • Experience as an art therapist in a medical and/or oncology setting (preferred)


Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:

  • ATR (Registered Art Therapist); ATR-BC (Board-Certified Art Therapist); ATCS (Certified Supervisor) issued by the Art Therapy Credentials Board, Inc. (preferred)


Job Responsibilities:

  • Uses a systematic application of art in a therapeutic environment to promote patient wellness, manage stress, express feelings, improve communication and promote coping with illness, injury, disability and hospital/healthcare experiences.
  • Acts as a resource to team members, participates in team and professional meetings and gives input as to needs of patients, families and staff. Attends rounds as needed and assists the manager in program development.
  • Conducts assessments and administers individual and group art therapy sessions. Communicates effectively with patients ranging in age and functioning. Adheres to the American Art Therapy Association scope of practice, competencies and applies the art therapy process in pediatric and adult sessions.
  • Conducts effective research studies.
  • Attends department meetings, functions, staff in-service and community presentations as assigned by manager.
  • Performs administrative duties required of a clinician such as keeping track of patient census, developing forms and session plans. Identifies needs, opportunities and makes recommendations for change to the program manager. Implements problem-solving mechanisms and makes suggestions according to scope of expertise in both routine and emergency situations.
  • Documents patient sessions in charting software and department documentation forms.
  • Works in conjunction with the Program Manager and Senior Director regarding budgetary matters.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable federal and/or state laws, regulations, and/or agency rules, standards and guidelines, etc.
  • Assists department visitors in a courteous manner and directs to appropriate personnel.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure the smooth operation of the department or center.
