Job Description

PRIMARY CUSTOMERS, PARTNERS, AND TEAM:
At AdventHealth University (AHU), our primary customers are students, faculty, and staff. Our partners are physicians, allied health clinicians and other employees of AdventHealth and the surrounding medical community.

GENERAL SUMMARY:
As a Doctor of Physical Therapy program faculty, this position develops, designs and delivers instruction and assesses learning in physical therapy courses, participates in student advising and mentoring and engages in the academic roles of teaching, service, scholarship and research. Reviews and assists with development and revisions as needed for department policies and procedures. This position identifies and recommends to department chair appropriate community agency linkages for student learning experiences and contributes to the fulfillment of the University’s and program’s mission, vision and learning outcomes. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
• Ability to effectively communicate with college administration, faculty, staff, students, and others internal and external to the University
• Organizational and administrative skills
• Ability to effectively use computer programs related to educational duties which includes, but is not limited to, word processing, database management, complex data computation, analysis and graphics, presentation development, and distance learning technology; visual and auditory skills to use computer and other presentation equipment, including telecommunications
• Ability to cooperatively work as a team member
• Self-directed
• Effective writing skills
• Ability to consult as necessary
• Contemporary expertise in assigned teaching areas
• Effective teaching and student evaluation skills

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
• An earned advanced level doctorate or a Doctor of Physical Therapy (entry-level or transitional DPT)
• Four years of current clinical practice as a licensed physical therapist (if not a physical therapist the individual must possess an advanced level doctorate)
• Clinical or academic teaching experience including the evaluation of student performance

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
• Advanced doctoral degree (i.e., PhD, EdD, DSc, ScD)
• More than five years of contemporary clinical practice as a licensed physical therapist
• Three years’ academic experience in a Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE)-accredited physical therapy education program with substantiated effective teaching and student evaluation skills
• Established, well-defined, and ongoing scholarly agenda with significant history of publication and evidence of extramural funding
• Remarkable record of service consistent with the expectation of the University and program

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers’ card

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION PREFERRED:
• Current valid State of Florida license as a Physical Therapist
• Clinical specialty certification (American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties [ABPTS] certification preferred)

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Demonstrates behaviors at AdventHealth University in harmony with the “Four Words” Nurture, Excellence, Spirituality and Stewardship.

• Reviews and assists with revisions as needed for department policies and procedures
• Documents and maintains current student clinical experiences
• Identifies and recommends to department chair appropriate community agency linkages for student learning experiences
• Participates in graduate student capstone advising
• Develops, designs and delivers instruction in, and assessment of, physical therapy courses
• Participates in student advising and mentorship
• Exhibits and models the characteristics of a Christian professional
• Participates in program and university-wide service activities
• Actively engages in the committees as assigned by the President or program Chair
• Engages in the academic roles of teaching, service, scholarship and research
• Consults with department chair to recommend budget request(s) that assures adequate resources to support physical therapy faculty and preceptors
• Assumes other duties as assigned.
