PRIMARY CUSTOMERS, PARTNERS, AND TEAM: 

At Adventist University of Health Sciences (ADU), our primary customers are students, faculty, and staff.  Our partners are physicians, allied health clinicians and other employees of Florida Hospital

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Associate Professor of Clinicals is considered a senior member of the University faculty and serves as a respected mentor to colleagues and students.  Appointment as an Associate Professor signifies demonstrated excellence as an educator, competence as a scholar, and recognition in professional service.  Supervises clinical students in the clinical environment, which might include hospitals, clinics, imaging centers, nursing homes or homecare, homeless shelters and doctor’s offices.    The Associate Professor participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.     

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

• Ability to work in both a face-to-face and online teaching environment.

• Knowledge of computer based academic delivery systems.

• Ability to work with an ethnically diverse student body.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS PREFERRED:

• 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• Master’s degree from a regionally-accredited academic institution.  The degree must be either in the assigned area of education or in an area that directly contributes to the professional assignment. 

• The candidate must have at least three years of effective college-level work in the area of academic or professional expertise.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

• Doctoral degree from a regionally-accredited academic institution.  The degree must be either in the assigned area of education or in an area that directly contributes to the professional assignment. 

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:

• State Licensure is required in the clinical discipline in which the faculty member teaches for Nursing, Occupational Therapy and Radiography.    For Nuclear Medicine faculty,  registry is required with either NMTCB (preferable) or ARRT.      For Sonography faculty,  registry is required thru ARDMS (preferred)  or ARRT or CCI.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Demonstrates behaviors at Adventist University of Health Sciences in harmony with the “Four Words” Nurture, Excellence, Spirituality, and Stewardship

• Provides course syllabi for instruction.

• Develops, Designs and Delivers Instruction in assigned courses.

• Participates in Student Advising and Mentoring.

• Formulates and administers, as needed, student competencies.

• Engages in the academic roles of teaching, service, scholarship and research.

• Grades examinations and assignments and review evaluations with students.

• Reviews and assist with revisions as needed for department policies and procedures.

• Identifies and recommends to department chair appropriate community agency linkages for student learning experiences. 

• Makes appropriate clinical assignments

• Conducts student orientation to the clinical site

• Supervises students in the clinical set¬ting in the application of theory to practice.

• Participates with the team to plan theory and clinical content of the course.

• Documents areas of concern and prescribes appropriate process for remediation.

• Evaluates learning resources such as reference materials, audio/visual aids, computer assisted learning programs, and library acquisitions.

• Continues to develop as a faculty member of the university through advanced studies,

research and writing
