GENERAL SUMMARY:


The Referral Specialist, under general supervision, is responsible for receiving and processing referral requests in a centralized call center environment.  Processes medical record requests pertinent to the referrals. Serves as a liaison between patients, providers, and other health care facilities in regards to referrals and appointment scheduling.



PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:


•      Demonstrates through behavior FL Hospital’s Core Values of Integrity, Care, Balance, Excellence, Stewardship and Teamwork


•      Telephonically manages referrals for patients from Centra Care providers across all regions where Centra Care is present while adequately prioritizing the referrals based on referral acuity


•      Responsibe for maintaining internal and external excellent customer relationships


•      Assists physician offices, imaging and rehab facilities to meet the referral needs of the patient by      timely telephone, e-mail, text communication and/or faxing of medical records from Centra Care visits


•      Follows up as needed with patients via phone or e-mail, to ensure patients’ health issues have been adequately handled


•      Expedites, documents and tracks incoming and outgoing referral information for Centra Care facilities in Referral application and other applications as needed


•      Answers inbound calls in referral queues responding to patients, employers, clients, Center staff, & Physicians


•      Answer the Care Coordination Center call line to handle Lab Care appointments and other general help questions for the Florida Hospital Ambulatory Services


•      Maintains call center metrics and standards as required by the department.


•      Updates contact information for employer-clients, insurance carriers, and physicians for referral purposes.  Understands that all client and carrier information is the intellectual property of Centra Care and or the BHS Referral Dept. and is not to be removed from the work area.


    Performs other duties as requested by the department Manager




KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:


•         Ability to communicate by reading, writing legibly, speaking and comprehending English effectively in order to carry out job requirements


•         Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel)


•         Exceptional customer service


•         Ability to operate a computer, copier, fax and scanner


•         Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, and others of diverse backgrounds




KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS PREFERRED:


•         Basic understanding of health insurance plans


•         Ability to read/understand basic content in a medical record


•         Ability to comprehend and adapt to new software applications




EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:


•         High school diploma or equivalency


•         Medical Terminology



EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:


•         Ability to telephonically engage customers


•         Experience in a call center environment
