The largest health care provider in Johnson County, Kansas, the SMH network includes SMMC and SMH - Prairie Star and will soon include SMH - Blue Valley, a third major health care facility. Our 54-acre campus at SMMC is comprised of the main hospital, a community health education building, six physician office buildings and an associate child care center. The Emergency Department at SMMC is the busiest in Johnson County. We deliver more babies each year at the Shawnee Mission Birth Center than any other hospital in the metropolitan area and our Center for Women’s Health is nationally recognized. We have seven Shawnee Mission Primary Care locations with more than 30 Board-certified doctors who specialize in family medicine, internal medicine and pediatrics as well as Centra Care Shawnee Mission Urgent Care locations.

You will be responsible for:
  • Prepares monthly journal entries, completes various balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Prepared monthly financial statements and bank reconciliations.
  • Assist Department Managers and Administrators with special request.
  • Responds to all verbal and written communication in a timely and professional manner.
  • Supports and adheres to organizational policies, procedures and protocols.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient and business information,
  • Verbally and behaviorally supporting Medical Center mission and values.
  • Demonstrates and conveys a favorable image of the Medical Center.
  • Demonstrates an acceptance and support of change throughout the department and Medical Center.
  • Demonstrates dependability, initiative, and self-motivation, and follows through with assigned tasks.
  • Accepts accountability for assigned tasks related to financial statement preparation, tax preparation, statistics and non-patient billing.
  • Resolves issues and problems as soon as they arise.
  • Incorporates patient, physician, customer needs and concerns into decision-making and organizational action.
  • Prioritizes work load to meet deadlines.
  • Maintains an organized filing system.
  • Willingly assumes additional responsibilities in order to support team efforts and to reach a deadline.
  • Assists in gathering information and provides explanations as needed for preparing tax returns, statistics, audit work papers and special projects.
  • Knowledgeable in hospital accounting policies and demonstrates this throughout their work making sure that journal entries are correct and consistent with hospital policy.
  • Verifies all documents and spreadsheets for accuracy before distribution.
  • Administers safeguards to insure the accuracy of financial statements, tax returns, audit work papers, fixed asset records, and departmental statistics.
  • Reconciles various balance sheet accounts to assure accuracy.
  • Prepares for high work load time of the year.  Assesses the work load assigned during monthly closing, yearly budget and year end audits.
  • Takes initiative to complete job requirements and assumes responsibility in the financial process.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work independently in the completion of a project.  
What will you need?
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Up to 1 Year of Position-Related Experience
  • Master’s Degree Preferred
  • 1 to 2 Years of Position-Related Experience Preferred
