Work Hours/Shifts

Full time days
You Will be Responsible for:  

• Perform all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.

• Observe safety precautions at all times; use protective wear, gloves, goggles; use proper body mechanics.

• Follow standard precautions at all times.

• Always wear x-ray badge; turn badge in monthly to Nurse Manager.

• Always inform Charge RN/Nurse Manager when leaving the department.

• Monitor and record temperature and humidity of each surgical suite.

• Monitor and record temperature of warming cabinets and medical refrigerator/freezer.

• Ensure all warmers are stocked with blankets and fluids; monitor the warming cabinets throughout the shift.

• Ensure formalin supplies are at adequate levels.

• Ensure specimen containers are stocked.

• Monitor and stocks hats, masks and booties in staff lockers room and physician locker room.

• Monitor, order and stock linen on the linen cart in the substerile area for the day.

• Ensure plastic bags of ice are available in the freezer for the transporting of blood gases.

• Inspect and supply needed CO2, nitrogen and O2 tanks for the surgical suites.

• Keep Environmental Services closet organized and stocked with regular bags, red bags, paper products and cleaning chemicals and supplies.

• Damp dust all surgical lights, tables and other furniture in each surgical suite before the OR schedule begins.

• Demonstrate knowledge and skills to perform duties, methods and procedures required by the job.

• Maintains strict confidence of patient and/or customer information.

• Suggest and participate in process improvement opportunities in the performance of duties.

• Documents patient care and completes task list in accordance to standards of care and other protocol.

• Seeks solutions to resolve unexpected problems that arise in the course of their work, and make practical routine decisions.

• Gets along well with co-workers, patients, families and others served. Treats everyone with courtesy and respect.

• Does not engage in gossip or character defamation of others. Respects social and cultural differences.

• Sense the needs of those served and take initiative to optimize their experience at PRH and/or PRMA.

• Notifies supervisor of potential and actual safety issues. Prevents and takes corrective action of physical safety, sanitation and infection control within work area.

• Perform all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.

• Practices proper body mechanics and lifting techniques. Uses lifting devices to move patients and seeks assistance as needed.

• Complete education, training and competency programs required for the job within time frames established.

• Dependable, arrives at work on time, reports to work as scheduled, and adheres to break and meal schedules.

• Schedules time off in advance. Punches in and out as schedules. Calls supervisor to report absences timely.

• Agrees to work extra shifts/hours as needed.

• Completes work assignments thoroughly and follows up on requests in an accurate, prompt and timely manner. 

Qualifications
What you will need:
  • High School Graduate or equivalent is required.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS certification required. 
  • Nurse Assistant Certification current in the North Carolina Nurse Assistant Registry, preferred
  • Surgical experience preferred
  • Able to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing required
  • Additional languages preferred 

Job Summary

Responsible for keeping the Surgical Services Department clean and organized. Transport patients to and from the OR. Take specimens to the laboratory, picks up x-rays, charts, etc.
