Safety Manager – Hospital Safety - Orlando

AdventHealth Orlando seeks to hire Safety Manager who will embrace our mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ.



Facility Profile:

Located on a lush tropical campus, our flagship hospital, 1,368-bed AdventHealth Orlando, serves as the major tertiary facility for much of the Southeast, the Caribbean and South America. AdventHealth Orlando houses one of the largest Emergency Departments and largest cardiac catheterization labs in the country. We are already one of the busiest hospitals in the nation, providing service excellence to more than 32,000 inpatients and 125,000 outpatients each year.



Work Hours/Shifts:

8am to 4:30pm; M-F



Job Summary:

The Safety Manager, under the direction of the Safety Director, manages, oversees, coordinates, and provides active input for all life safety programs at AdventHealth. Provides for specific and general fire safety education, fire alarm response and protocols, and fire drill coordination and scheduling. Supervises Safety Specialists assigned to the Safety Department to include conducting employee evaluations and assessments. Maintains the fire extinguisher program and works through various entities to ensure a safe working environment where fire safety is a top priority. Oversee the ICRA (Infection Control Risk Assessment) and Interim Life Safety Measure processes as well as supervise those Safety Specialists that actively administer the program. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. .



Knowledge, Skills, Education, & Experience Required:

  • Knowledge of Life Safety Codes as presented in the NFPA standards
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards in the Environment of Care with emphasis on Fire Prevention
  • Ability to respond to, take control of, and mitigate critical situations related to safety issues in a calm, professional, manner
  • Ability to observe and write accurate and error free reports
  • Ability to effectively discuss, correct, and educate others on safety issues
  • Able to perform multi-tasking over a variety of situations and develop priorities
  • Ability to learn and educate in a highly complex environment (Preferred)
  • Associate degree in Occupational Safety and Health or related field
  • 7 years of experience in a healthcare related safety field
  • 7 years of experienced working within agencies such as the Agency for Health Care
  • Administration (AHCA), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Det Norske Veritas (DNV), Joint Commission (JCAHO), etc.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health or related field (Preferred)
  • 10 years of experience in a healthcare related safety field (Preferred)



Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:

  • Safety related certification such as CSP, CHSP, CHEM, or CSM
  • HAZWOPER 40 Hour Course
  • OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health) Manager (Preferred)
  • NIMS ICS 100, 200 and 700 Certifications (Preferred)
  • Hospital Incident Command Center Training (HICS) (Preferred)
  • Hazardous Materials Operations Certification (Preferred)


Job Responsibilities:

Demonstrates through behavior AdventHealth’s Core Values of Keep Me Safe, Love Me, Make it Easy, and Own it as outlined in the organization’s Performance Excellence Program.

  • Demonstrates, through behavior, AdventHealth Orlando’s service standards.
  • Manages the fire extinguisher maintenance program.
  • Supervises Safety Specialists assigned to the Safety Department to include conducting employee evaluations and assessments.
  • Assure compliance with NFPA and other regulatory requirements for Life Safety and Fire Prevention.
  • Provide for Fire Prevention education to all new employees and participate in annual education processes.
  • Performs incident investigations, submits reports, and participates in development of action plans for correction.
  • Serves as principle hospital contact for outside regulatory entities related to Life Safety and Fire Prevention.
  • Participates in Facility Management Performance Improvement initiatives.
  • Chairs the Life Safety Committee and submits reports to the Physical Environment Committee.
  • Coordinates all ICRA (Infection Control Risk Assessments) processes for construction and renovation within or on the grounds of AdventHealth properties. Coordinates all ILSM (Interim Life Safety Measures) for construction and renovation within or on the grounds of AdventHealth properties.
  • Performs and coordinates hazard surveillance rounds according to DNV requirements.
  • Assists Director and oversees departmental operations in the Director’s absence.
