Radiation Therapist Lead –Radiation Oncology – Celebration

AdventHealth Celebration seeks to hire Radiation Therapist Lead who will embrace our mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ.

Established in 1997 and now a 203-bed hospital, AdventHealth Celebration Health was designed as a Mediterranean resort-style facility to serve as a cornerstone of health in Disney’s planned community of Celebration, Florida. Department Profile:

The Advent Health Cancer Institute serves more cancer patients than any other health system in Florida. We provide a comprehensive continuum of services ranging from disease prediction and prevention to state-of-the-art detection, treatment and research. Patients have convenient access to the latest in medical and radiation oncology, patient support and education programs, and a dedicated team of highly-qualified physicians and certified oncology nurses. The brand new 13,000 square foot Radiation Oncology practice at Advent Health Celebration offers patients a comprehensive array of radiation therapy treatments using Varian’s True Beam linear accelerator and Siemens 64 slice CT for patient simulations . Our state of the art modalities includes:

  • Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT)
  • Stereotactic Body Radiosurgery (SBRT)
  • Stereotactic Radiosurgey (SRS)
  • Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT)
  • Four-dimensional Simulation
  • Respiratory Gating
  • Deep Inspiration Breath Hold (DIBH)
  • Intra-Operative Radiotherapy (IORT)



Work Hours/Shifts:

M-F, 8:00am – 4:30pm

Job Summary:

The Radiation Therapist – Lead is a registered and licensed professional who is responsible for administering therapeutic radiation in accordance with the physician’s prescription to age specific groups identified in the direct care responsibilities. Serves as a mentor by coaching, evaluating, counseling and educating team members. Provides direct daily supervision to the radiation therapist. Serves as the team leader in the absence of the site leader. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.



Knowledge, Skills, Education, & Experience Required:

  • Computer Literate
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Ability to communicate with patients appropriately
  • Electronic Health Record (EHR) experience
  • Previous leadership experience (Preferred)
  • Minimum five years’ experience as a Radiation Therapist
  • Graduate of a Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) Radiation Therapy Program (Preferred)
  • Bachelor of Science degree in healthcare, business or related field. (Preferred)


Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:

  • Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
  • Licensed by the State of Florida as a Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certified


Job Responsibilities:

Demonstrates through behavior AdventHealth’s Core Values of Keep Me Safe, Love Me, Make it Easy, and Own it as outlined in the organization’s Performance Excellence Program.

  • Assesses the patients’ needs and actively seeks to resolve any potential problems or conflicts. Seeks advice from Site Leader as necessary. Treats the patient in a timely and courteous manner. Handles stressful situations appropriately and demonstrates the ability to communicate with patients of all ages. Clinically observes patient reactions to treatment and assists in accommodating the patient through the treatment process.
  • Verifies the physician’s prescription and treatment parameters daily to ensure accurate treatment of the patient in accordance with the prescription and treatment plan. Identifies the treatment volume and positions the patient in a consistent and reproducible manner.
  • Serves as a mentor by coaching, evaluating, counseling and educating team members. Provides direct daily supervision to the radiation therapist. Coordinates schedules and maintains a timely and efficient flow within the treatment schedule. Monitors labor, productivity, adjusts staffing schedules to maintain within budgeted parameters based on volumes. Displays effective leadership and supervisory capabilities. Serves as the team leader in the absence of the site leader. Represents leader/department at meetings as necessary. Works with site leader to monitor patient and staff satisfaction surveys and keeping radiation therapists informed of pertinent information. Participates in the hiring process of radiation therapists.
  • Evaluates prescribed imaging and makes requested changes within 24 hours. Accurately documents treatment information in the patient electronic record. Utilizes the record and verify system.
  • Performs all aspects of CT Simulation. Under the direction of the physician or non-physician practitioner, administers contrast agents during simulation localization. Immediately reports and documents adverse reactions to the managing physician and Site Leader.
  • Reviews all new starts for consistency prior to treatment. Checks the blocks, simulation documents, dose calculation sheet, prescription, field photos to verify patient positioning and field orientation. Checks record and verify system for prescription, treatment parameters, doses, treatment accessories and monitor units. Documents in the EHR that the medical plan was reviewed for consistency.
  • Performs morning QA on the treatment unit. Able to assess whether all equipment is operating according to physics policy. Calls appropriate person immediately after equipment malfunctions. Follows up with service engineer/physics/Site Leader to make sure problem is rectified and necessary parts have been ordered.
  • Provides supervised education experiences for students that fulfill the curriculum requirements of the academic institution.
  • Ordering of department supplies.
  • Participates in afterhours on call coverage and maintains competency with afterhours treatment coverage. Has ability to perform 2D treatment calculations.
  • Performs additional duties as requested.
