Work Hours/Shift:
PRN - Day
You Will Be Responsible For:
  • Interprets physician prescriptions and medication orders, reviewing each order for appropriateness and accuracy of dosage, usage, diluents, rate of administration, route.
  • Acts as drug information resource for patients, medical staff, nursing staff and ancillary department personnel, providing pertinent information on medication appropriateness, drug interactions, side effects, dosing, available products and storage. 
  • Oversees compounding of medications using standard formulas and processes and documents check in Simplifi 797 or on log sheets as appropriate.
  • Supervises aseptic preparation of IV admixtures, chemotherapy and extemporaneous parenteral products, ensuring compliance with all NC Board of Pharmacy, JCAHO and ASHP regulations and standards, including USP797 regulations.  
  • Reviews and monitors drug therapy that requires dosing adjustments as authorized by the prescribing physician.
  • Oversees daily work flow and provides guidance to technicians to ensure timely and accurate deliveries to patient care areas.
  • Identifies and prevents problems related to drug distribution and drug administration within the hospital and hospital affiliated clinics.
  • Assures accurate inventory of all narcotics in accordance with state and federal laws/regulations.
  • Educates patients on medications, providing detailed information about compliance, side effects, and other information as deemed necessary.
  • Completes therapeutic substitutions upon receipt of orders for products that are not stocked and have a P&T approved alternative.
  • Checks products for accuracy (including correct med, dose, strength, diluents, etc.) and proper labeling prior to dispensing.
  • Maintains established procedures concerning quality control, security of controlled substances and disposal of hazardous waste.
  • Precepts student learners and provides pharmaceutical education as requested.
  • Assists the Director of Pharmacy with responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s mission, policies and applicable laws. 


What You Will Need:
  • Doctorate of Pharmacy degree or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree required.
  • Graduate from an accredited School of Pharmacy required
  • Current Pharmacist licensure in the State of North Carolina required.
