AHMG Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery Department at Orlando has a great opportunity for a certified Physician Assistant (PA-C) or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) with first assist certification to join a growing practice. The role involves orthopedic management of patients ranging from newborn to early adulthood. This individual would work in outpatient and inpatient settings as well as assist in surgery.  

Walt Disney Pavilion at AdventHealth for Children (formerly Florida Hospital for Children) is a full service, tertiary children’s hospital with over 200 dedicated pediatric beds including a 22 bed PICU, 10 bed Cardiac ICU, 102 bed NICU, 17 bed pediatric emergency department and statewide pediatric network and transport system.  Our unparalleled network consists of 27 hospitals across the state with Walt Disney Pavilion at the center and several extremely successful pediatric subspecialty programs including outreach clinics.

General Summary:

The APP, under the supervision of the Physicians is responsible for: 

  • Performing histories and physical exams on pediatric orthopedic patients in both the office and hospital.
  • Handling daily patient rounds, patient education and discharge summaries
  • First assisting in the Operating Room
  • Other procedures which include but are not limited to: Joint injections, aspirations, cast application, dressing changes, fracture reduction
  • Ordering and interpreting appropriate diagnostic tests, such as laboratory, X-ray, MRI, etc.
  • Assisting patient and family with pre- and post-procedural education
  • Monitoring the patient’s course of treatment and places orders for referral to the appropriate specialist.
  • Collaborating with physician and staff to provide consistent care to both the parents and the patients.

Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, office staff, patients, parents and hospital medical staff
  • Desire to become part of a multi-disciplinary program
  • Some evening and weekend on-call/rounding will be required

Education and Experience:

•         Master’s degree in nursing or Physician Assistant Studies

•         Experience with pediatric orthopedics

•         First assist surgical experience


Licensure, Certification, and Registration:

•         Current, valid Florida PA-C license (or eligible); APRN with 1st assist certification

•         Certification through NCCPA or other nationally recognized certification body
