Job Description

Licensed Mental Health Counselor

GENERAL SUMMARY:


The Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) provides individual and group therapy to people with depression and/or anxiety in an outpatient clinic setting in order to maximize functioning and prevent hospitalization.  The LMHC obtains psychosocial assessments and may provide field supervision to Masters level student interns.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

•         Primary therapist to maintain a full caseload and perform case management functions as necessary.

•         Communicate thoroughly and appropriately with patients and family members, as well as the clinic administrative and clinical teams.

•         Conduct individual and group therapy as appropriate to client need.

•         Conduct intake screening and psychosocial evaluations of clients.

•         Develop and implement outcome-oriented treatment plans, in conjunction with case ARNP/psychiatrist and case managers when necessary.

•         When needed, provide field supervision for Master level student interns.

•         Provide specific community resources/referrals relevant to patient needs.

•         Provide documentation of clinical services in accordance with clinical and best practice standards.

•         Maintain current knowledge of available community resources.

•         Serve as patient advocate for patient needs within the community.

•         Performs additional duties as assigned or directed to ensure the smooth operation of the department.



KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

•         Excellent competency in written and verbal skills.

•         Excellent communication and advocacy skills with patients, staff, and community resources.

•         Working knowledge of community and treatment resources based on age and clinical needs.

•         Excellent ability to organize and prioritize job duties in an efficient and timely manner.

•         Excellent ability in working independently and with team members.

•         Excellent teamwork skills

•         Knowledge of Medicaid, Social Security, community resources and other entitlements.

•         Experienced in and comprehensive understanding and working knowledge of the interdisciplinary planning process and the developmental treatment model.

•         Demonstrates ability to communicate by reading, writing legibly, speaking and comprehending English effectively in order to carry out job requirements.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS PREFERRED:

•            N/A

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

•         Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

•            Three (3) years post-Master’s experience in clinical practice

•            One (1) year experience with field supervision of Masters level student interns

•            One (1) year experience in working in short-term/solution-oriented modalities and groups



LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:

•         Current & valid Florida Mental Health Counselor license (LMHC)
