GENERAL SUMMARY:
         The Education Coordinator under the general supervision of the Director of Health Information Management, is responsible for the strategic management of the Education functions for the HIM West Florida Tampa Region.  This position is responsible for the development and effective delivery of all education programs to meet department existing and future needs providing the ability for the operational areas to operate effectively and ensure financial integrity in the changing healthcare environment.  The Education coordinator will develop training and education programs, material and delivery, compliance education, policies and procedures, and the employee quality audit program.  The position adheres to Adventist Health Systems Corporate Compliance Plan and to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state and federal agencies and accrediting bodies.  Actively participates in outstanding customer service & accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Development of education plans to meet department existing and future anticipated needs providing the ability for the operational areas to operate effectively and ensure financial integrity in the  changing healthcare environment. 
  • Develops and creates educational materials to include objective content development and delivery.  Oversight of the organizational and development programs, classes and seminars.  
  • Responsible for new hire HIM orientation and continuing development of development and delivery of compliance and payer related materials.  Responsible for the educational initiatives which relate to HIPAA regulations.  Drives operational workflow with accountability for meeting established goals.  Ensures team members have the tools and training for competencies related to HIM. 
  • Works in collaboration with Revenue Cycle leadership team to develop education for staff related for new and/or developing hardware and/or software systems.  Ensures incorporation of all system and technology related items into education plans.
  • Responsible for oversight of all department policies & standard operating procedure (SOP) development and annual maintenance through collaboration with department leaders.  Maintains consistency and ensures alignment of policies and SOPs, including communication and education of process changes to department leaders, management, and staff.  Serves as the department liaison as needed for Policy & Procedure Management committees
  • Performs employee quality audits with responsibility for program development through collaboration with department leaders, audit completion, and delivery of audit results to department leaders.  Responsible for identifying education needs through audit outcomes and development of education for staff to improve employee quality, accuracy and enhance the customer experience. 
  • Coordinates the department Resident, Internship, and Externship programs, working closely with various levels of Leadership in AHS , as well as community educational institutions
  • Chairs the Patient Document Review Committee for WFD, working closely with clinical areas and printing department/vendor for standardization of forms and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. 
  • Provides positive morale on a routine basis.  Fosters positive, professional relationships with other employees.  Contributes to and promotes departmental performance improvement initiatives and employee engagement.
  • Assumes personal responsibility for professional growth, development and continuing education to maintain a high level of proficiency.  
  • Maintains the confidentiality of employees, patients, administrative staff and medical staff information with no infractions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications
What will you need:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
  • Associate degree in Education, Business Administration, Healthcare or related field
OR
  • Five years equivalent experience in Education and/or hospital based Revenue Cycle, with specific emphasis in Health Information Management/ (HIM) Coding and/or education.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
  • Bachelors degree in Education, Business Administration, Healthcare or related field,
OR 
  • Five years of Education and/or Revenue Cycle Management Experience with focus in HIM/Coding 
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION PREFERRED: 
  • CPLP (Certified Professional in Learning and Performance) ATD (Association for Talent Development) Certification or other Education related certificate
  • Train the Trainer, or Training Certificate
