Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) – Multiple Departments – All Locations – Multiple Shifts

AdventHealth seeks to hire a Health Unit Coordinator who will embrace our mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ.

Job Summary:

The Health Unit Coordinator under the direct supervision of the Clinical Nurse Manager or Charge Nurse, performs general non-clinical duties and specific services necessary to expedite the efficient functioning of the nursing unit consistent with the philosophy, goals, policies and procedures in the nursing department and hospital administration. Adheres to the AdventHealth Corporate Compliance Plan and to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state and federal agencies and accrediting bodies. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. *LHCH AND LHUC refer to Lead HUC competency.



Knowledge, Skills, Education, & Experience Required:

  • Successful completion of AdventHealth Health Unit Coordinator test
  • Has sufficient knowledge of English and spelling to perform various non-clinical duties.
  • Has neat and legible handwriting.
  • Is able to maintain an orderly working environment.
  • Is knowledgeable of medical terms.
  • Conserves hospital supplies and equipment.
  • One year experience as HUC (Preferred)
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.(Preferred)

Job Responsibilities:

  • Unit Responsibilities Demonstrates through behavior Florida Hospital’s core values of Integrity, Care, Balance, Excellence, Stewardship, and Teamwork as outlined in the organization’s Performance Excellence Program booklet. Performs, properly records and reports all unit duties in accordance with department policy. Documents and transcribes patient care processes and clinical data correctly. Orders supplies and forms needed for the unit in a timely manner. Schedules appointments and follow up visits if needed. Is able to handle various job demands simultaneously. Answers phone, responds to visitor questions. Enters CBP protocol sets as ordered. Assists healthcare team.
  • Performance Improvement/ Infection Control Participates in practice changes as a result of performance improvement activities. Demonstrates accurate documentation and monitoring of activities as needed. Supports quality standards and initiatives set by the department. Practices the principle of universal body substance isolation, hand washing according to policy and enforces safety regulations
  • Communication/Cooperation Supports the philosophy of SHARE as demonstrated by behavior. Refuses to participate in unethical procedures and assumes the responsibility of informing the appropriate authority of noted incompetence or unethical behavior. Cooperative and flexible when unexpected changes in workload or staffing occur. Accepts assignments away from department or unit with a positive and cooperative attitude. Participates in the orientation of new personnel. Accepts and profits from direction and counseling.
  • Professional Standards and Ethics Adheres to AdventHealth Corporate Compliance Plan and to all applicable local, state and federal agencies and accrediting bodies. Attend mandatory in-service education. Attends 50% of department meetings and reads minutes of meetings not attended. Utilizes available education materials, programs, literature and resource personnel for career development. Accepts responsibility for knowing current changes in policy, protocols and procedures through the hospital communication systems.
